Life Companies Going Back to Life Insurance Only?

The GOP won the Senate and will most likely win the house in 2012 when it's seats are up for grabs. This means that Obamacare will cease to exist as we know it.

It won't if Americans view it as an entitlement like SSI and Medicare. If the populas wants it to stay it will stay otherwise the Rebubs won't get re-elected.

Well everyone I talk to is not for the plan in its current state. It either goes too far or not far enough.

It still doesn't fix the issue - the rising cost of healthcare in the US. It takes a crack at the rising costs of INSURANCE - but doesn't address things like medical advancement, new drugs, etc. where we have been paying those R&D costs soe everyone else aroudn the world can benefit.

Then look at the rising costs of the mal practice insurance for the providers, on and on and on....:)

I'm sure what prompted these thoughts is MetLife leaving LTCi.

Actually no. Although the recent thread about it prompted me to post the thoughts that I have been having.

But what spurred it initially was this:

But recently I spoke to an exec at Cinci Life who informed me that they will soon be discontinuing their DI (both group and indv) because they do not want any product that might classify them as a health insurance company.

He said that their lawyers have gone over this for a long while, they even consulted with other companies to share opinions.

To not be classified as a HI company was the main reason for plans to discontinue.

(To be fair he said its not a done deal yet, but it is about 95% sure in his opinion...)

So this discontinuance would not be a normal one.
