Med Supp and Online Sales

Thanks for staying on topic.

So far non of you are generating leads from your own website to sell med supps.

I don't know anyone who is generating enough to make a living. Sure you can generate leads, but most people still don't understand how Medicare works so you have to have a conversation with them. I'd be surprised if 1 out of 100 would go to a website and enroll without speaking to someone.

I was talking to an engineer (you know how anal engineers are) and he went online and found as much info as he could. Called carriers and had them send information. In the end, he wanted to talk to an agent to get an explanation in normal language and that's what caused him to make a move. The personal contact.

If you can figure out a way to create a website that will draw people in and have them enroll without speaking to anyone, you'll corner the market. Good luck on reinventing the wheel. It may work in a decade or two as the younger baby boomers enter the market, but I doubt it. Most people don't know how their benefits package at their job works, they definitely aren't going to understand all the ins and outs of Medicare.

I don't think that is totally true but what sman said is also what I have experienced. Seniors want to talk to an agent before making a decision. You will get a little bit of interest from a website but not enough yet to build a business. Maybe in a few years but not now.

I have a form for them to fill out and send to me if they want info on Med Supps. They never send the form. All most all of them pick up the phone and give me a call. I don't remember the last time I received the form.

When dealing with "old school" people, "old school" methods are still the best approach.

I think I'd love nothing more than to create a website that I could put on auto-pilot and spend every day on the golf course. It just doesn't work that way in the senior market. At least not yet. Like I said, maybe as the younger end of the baby boomer generation reaches Medicare, but I doubt it would happen then. Most people just don't understand how Medicare works. That's usually my first question when I get through the niceties of the conversation. The two referrals I received yesterday (they called me), after the "getting to know you" part of the conversation I said, "Let's start here, do you know how Medicare works". I have yet to have a person tell me they understand the benefits of Medicare and what they are responsible for paying. They don't even know what their Part B premium is. I especially love those who make good money the year they go on Medicare and they find out they are having to pay a higher premium.

I always love when someone comes on the forum and asks for advice and then gets pissed or sarcastic when they don't get the answer they were looking for.

Even though I am not in the senior market, Craig Ritter very kindly responded to questions I had about Med Supps earlier this year. He is very knowledgeable and a real gentleman.

This is solid advice.
And I agree that it is impossible to get people enroll without speaking to them.

The Mep Supp Sales would not be my main source of income.
My goal would be to pick up 3-4 supp sales monthly from current health block.

Another 3-4 from website

Then say about 20 from open enrollment.

So the goal would be to write 100 a year.

My question from the start of this thread has been will people turning 65 complete an online application, with online proposals, and a phone conversation?

On a side note why do so many of you not embrace generating your own leads with a website?

It's not a matter of not "embracing" generating leads from a website. It's a matter of it being effective. Maybe you're an SEO genius and can get all kinds of traffic for Med Supps. You can definitely turn a lead into a sale over the phone. The question is, will they give you their information on the website or call you? The folks who sell leads seem to have a way of getting their information. Of course, the people are generally pissed by the time all the agents are finished calling them.

Give it a shot. Like I said, if you can make it work you'll corner the market and we'll all be paying you to learn how to do it.

IMHO, I don't think your numbers add up. I'll give you the 40-50 sales a year from your current block. Where are you getting the 20 from open enrollment? I don't think you will achieve the 40-50 sales from your website, unless you pay big, big bucks to Google. If you do indeed get the traffic, you will merely be one in 20 that will be calling them soliciting their business, from some far away land, hoping to get it done over the phone/mail/net. I've been wrong plenty of time before, but I just don't see it. I think you would be better served two ways- referrals from your block ( I think you are minimizing that potential gold mine that you have). Second, internet lead and then, if possible, f2f. Good luck, please keep us posted on how you do!
