Med Supp Plan N

Providers that do not accept assignment are often specialists, usually PARE claims.

If this person had a cardio surgeon and/or gas passer that don't accept assignment he could have incurred several hundred or even a few thousand in OOP xs charges.

Then even a plan F wouldn't help in that case. Sure, it would have paid a bit more, but if the patient signed a financial agreement, as required for those that want "their price" paid fully, then the "huge bill" the patient got was fully explained to him before the services provided. As required by law.

I would think the "huge bill" was true, but I am also thinking it said on it something along the lines of this is what is being submitted to Medicare and/or your insurance provider.

I have had some clients call when a bill like this comes in. After a few seconds of explaining they will receive a copy of the entire bill for their records and look for the above wording they calm down and just throw it in their file cabinet or circular file (ie trash can). I use the example of my daughter's birth. We received a copy of the $9,000 bill, but I did not pay $9,000.

Or the guy could call a $50 bill a huge bill?;)

I'm not a big fan of the plan. In my state its really not much of a savings over G.
I did call an internet lead once who wanted to switch from a N. The guy explained he had a heart attack and bypass and got a huge bill---problem is his agent lied and told him that there was no charges outside of copays.
It made me sad to think that here is a guy who didn't understand that he could potentially have that type of bill.

Agent lies, huge bills, and sad feelings are all great reasons not to sell Plan N.

On the other hand, you have agent's that actually sell Plan N that don't seem to have these issues. The biggest gaps in Medicare are indeed filled in. Those are the benefits you sell and they pay for.

The cost sharing under N is very limited, but of course should be explained.
