In Somarco's defense, I will say I agree with this article. I had an Advantage plan for about 6 months last year. Worst decision I have made. Ended up back in the hospital shortly after it went into force. Had problems with getting tests the Dr wanted approved. When I got out my Dr ordered home health. At te end of the first cert, the HH did a pre cert but the advantage plan denied it. Never had any of these problems with my med supp. The country pays and non covered charges ended up costing me more than my premiums for the supp were. I am now back on a supp and have just finished with another round of HHC. No problems getting it approved or recertified. Also hav e no problem getting my drugs covered. As long as I can pay the premium for my med supp I will never go back to advantage nor would I reccomend it to anyone else.

Both Medicare and Medicaid are susceptible to payment errors—over $100 billion worth in 2023. Known as "improper payments," these are payments that are either made in an incorrect amount or should not have been made at all.
We testified about our numerous recommendations to CMS and Congress that reduced improper payments, enhanced program integrity, and saved billions of dollars in Medicare and Medicaid.
Other recommendations remain unimplemented. For example, we recommended that Congress take action to address that Medicare pays more for certain services based on where they are provided. Doing so could save Medicare $141 billion over 10 years.
I find it appalling that reports, going back dozens of years, admitting that fraud totaling in the billions is not a one off thing . . . but something that occurs EVERY YEAR.
Yet for some reason, no one does anything about it . . . until now.
