53MNT who had a brain injury when a child that left him dependent on his family. He looks normal and really doesn't act much different than some of my uneducated clientelle. He can't support himself. Can't read or write. Can't do a PHI. Is GI all that is available?

Can he do his own ADL's? I would write him standard if he can answer "no" to app questions. Why do a PHI if you don't need to?

He lives with his sister who has POA. I don't think he could answer the questions on the application because of lack of understanding. All of the companies that I researched ask about "mental incapacity" so unless someone knows of a carrier in FL who will issue a mentally challenged person level then I am going to submit GI.

I grew up across the street from a boy named William. Back then we referred to him as retarded. He was a great friend. Played many games of football and baseball with him. He was a lot faster runner than me. I remember he would get confused and run the wrong way while playing football but he was hell to catch and tackle. I know now since his parents have both died he is living in a home for challenged people.

Have his sister do the application and sign as POA.

I want to do things right so I called Lafayette, Liberty Bankers, MOO, Sentinel Security and Transamerica and all said "No Thanks".

Can you name a single carrier that allows this?

All 18 of mine will not allow this.

If an applicant does not have the mental capacity to answer questions, do you realize the ultra high level of risk involved with insuring their life?

If you know of one, please share.

I'm just saying that, if they can be covered, the sister can do the application and sign as POA.

Which company to choose... who would actually insure him... that's a whole other issue.

But a POA has the legal capacity to answer the questions. That's all I'm saying.
