What companies will accept a person with mental slowness. (Honest, it is not me). He is 58, smoker. Good physical health. Has been married and his wife recently died. She had no insurance and he realizes he should have some burial coverage. Draws SS disability and lives with his sister. Can copy his name onto the app if his sisters writes it out for him on a separate sheet of paper.

Settlers indicated they would accept him if he can do the phone interview. What about SNL? Would also need either direct bill or DE withdrawal. Have the rest of the family insured so I would like to help if possible.

If the sister is the legal guardian she may be able to do his phone interview on Silver. I've done several that way. I also have had a mentally disabled adult approved with TransAmerica where her mother did the interview. But that was back when TransAmerica did POS interviews.

Great Western takes DE.

I think Sentinel Security takes the DE(but I might be wrong...then again I might not be wrong), he'd have to be able to do the POS PHI.

Standard Life and Accident if he can do all of the ADL's...they do direct monthly bill.

I do not have an application to check but check Secure Care through security National.

I think I might consider going straight with Trans on this one for two reasons. They take the DE card and they don't do a POS. As long as he can do his ADLs you should be fine.

No one has guardianship which is unfortunate.

Secure Care is not approved in TN. I don't see where their other product asks about retardation. No problems with ADLs... would that work?

Don't have Trans but I will pass it off to Rearden or one of his agents if I can't come up with something that will work for him... Thanks

I talked to our underwriters and given this situation, they would most likely rate him as graded with ANTEX. Under the assumption that he can do a phone interview.

Doesn't ANTEX use the same UW's as SLAICO? I'm sure I was tols last years that they'd be ok with this type of case if they're able to perform all the ADL's. Probably depends on who you talk to.

I'm not going to say they are the same but I will say they are very similar. It's different people with the same guidelines generally speaking. You are correct, they do look at the ADL's. I'd really need the details of the case to get an exact answer, but I relayed to our underwriter what the situation was with and that was the answer I received.

You've got to listen to what the UWer says. I know you've got a bit different product, maybe the apps different?
