Here's an interesting one.

I've got a potential client who is a 38 year old bipolar male (has depression, PTSD, and migraines).

He's currently taking Lamotrigine, Pantoprazole, and Buspirone.

He quit smoking August 2019.

Do any of you know a company who may take him? He's a disabled veteran looking for life insurance. I'm currently appointed with Mutual of Omaha and American-Amicable (I have paperwork in with John Hancock, AIG).

Is there a company who would potentially cover this man? And if there is, I'd like to know so I can get contracted with them.

Thank you all!

I found it from a post here. They might help.

Based on the info you've given, according to the Toolkit:

Liberty Bankers Life, Level Standard (with a warning that LBL can be unpredictable with mental meds).

United Home Life, Level Deluxe.

And as Helpico said SNL, Security Care Limited (Graded 25%*50%*75%*100%).

Based on that he may be better off with a small FE policy, if any. and a larger term plan.

Note the VA prescribes meds like candy.

He is 38 - does he have kids?
I would ask him his wants. What does he want the insurance to do? At 38 i am going to guess provide for someone. a little FE policy isn't going to do much beyond what is burial benefits are.

$50,000.00 20 yr term (age 58) W/ $50,000.00 ADB = $69.30
$50,000.00 20 yr term (age 58) W/ $50,000.00 ADB W/ *$20,000.00 CldRdr = $78.
Simple Term Deluxe

*All Children 30 days to 18 yrs. all future children, step, and adopted children 30 days to 18 YO, To age 21 then fully convertible with no evidence of insurability. (agent Inventory)

Many ways to do what we do.

Exactly!

The first questions might be to yourself. How long do I want to spend on this case. Bipolar is spelled, U-N-P-R-E-D-I-C-T-A-B-L-E. Personally been burnt more times than I want to discuss.... maybe it's just my deodorant?

I would go simple. If you have Liberty Bankers, start there. Simple application. Yes/No app.

I’ll write bipolar only if they’ve got a good track record of control. I MIGHT write if somebody else is owner and payor. Otherwise they’re a huge risk to persistency. (I might write Gerber if they’re still unstable. Gerber doesn’t seem to care about persistency.)

I’ve been burned many times after writing a bipolar case. The worst was the first time I ever encountered it. I actually didn’t know she was bipolar. She only had a dwelling fire policy with me. One day, I talked her into getting some life insurance. But she was unwilling to answer anything about her health, so I wrote a graded policy.

A couple weeks later, I got a call from compliance because she had called them claiming I had forged her check! Obviously, I denied it, but told them I would give her a call and get back to them.

I tried to reach her several times without success. I finally got hold of her daughter who told me that Mom had stopped taking her meds. She had to be institutionalized because she set her house on fire to “drive out the demons”. Her adult son was at home asleep, and she sat in the living room waiting for the fire to consume the house and both of them! Thank God that her neighbor, who was a fireman, spotted it and got it put it out pretty quickly.

The fire was only a few days after she had made her accusation against me. I called compliance back and gave them the whole story. They seemed to accept my explanation, even telling me that she sounded like she might be unstable the day she called in. But for a good while after, the company treated me like they were suspicious of my ethics, even though this was the only complaint on my record. We eventually parted ways.

They were probably wondering if you were off your meds.

Wow what story. You got to love the crazy's. They make this profession both dangerous and incredibly entertaining.

I must say that I have seen some very sad situations where children had to deal with parents that you knew needed to be seeing a specialist. I've often wonder what some of the poor kids became when they grew up.

"I have seen some very sad situations"
Ha, yup, me too. And I really feel for them.

"I've often wonder what some of the poor kids became when they grew up."
Winos and Insurance agents.

My brothers and were those kids. My mother was a paranoid schizophrenic her whole adult life. It was a bitch of a life. Staying with different relatives when she was hospitalized, multiple times. Cops, being thrown out of stores, committing her myself at age 16 and non of that was even the tough part.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I'm grateful you were able move forward and definitely glad you found a place here on the forum, I have appreciated getting to know you.

I was blessed with a great dad and mom. We where poor, but my sisters and I were loved. I always want to be aware of the world around me and be sensitive and approachable to those I can help. I am unable to solve people's problems, but if they ever reach out to me, I want always to reach back to them. Unashamedly I am a Christian. Not perfect, but forgiven. Because of this I am called to love others as I know I am loved. (I screw that up too sometimes. )

I've done a ton of in the field counseling, trying to help get people to the right place for help or just passing along advice on steps to get pointed in the right direction. I do this and burn my own time, because I have loved others who have spent time on me in the past. I also believe that where you might find yourself in life, should never define you. There is hope, there is always hope.

Please allow me to add, I am an example of a screwed up mess that has found help.

I'm no where near perfect, my wife and children remind me of this on a daily basis.

Just a bald headed mess, who loves giving good hugs, cause I know I need them.

@WinoBlues consider yourself hugged. :wubclub:
