More News on PLan N

Great, should be a busy year,

I just called United Health Care/AARP and found out that Plan N is subject to the $155 deductible. After that is met, than the plan will cover office calls with a $20 copay and emergency with a $50 copay.

If your AARP Plan F or G clients want to change over to the new Plan N, they just need to call the home office and they will switch them over with no health questions asked. You will still be the agent of record though and continue to get the commissions. I asked them if there was anyway that I could just switch them and they said "no" it was easier with just a phone call for them to switch.

It is official, agents can begin selling the new MOO Standardized Plans tomorrow in the following states. As long as the agent has the 2010 app they can use it for the new plans.

The states are:

ME, ME, UT, MT, AL, WV, OK, MO, MS and MI.

The following are some examples of the rates between an F and an N:

MO F = $135.31, N = $110.84
AL F = $151.00, N = $112.49
MI F = $107.08, N = $79.78

(The zip codes were random, rates will vary depending on the zip code. These are only examples to show the premium difference.)

This appears to be an excellent time to be in the Med Supp market.

Approval is still pending in the remaining states. More may be added yet this week.

Frank, did you see how good the MOO product looked in MO for a 65 female. The difference in the F and N is about 42 dollars per month. Should be a great seller!

Just had a client's wife call. She's turning 65 in June. Her husband is 66 and has Plan F with United of Omaha, he just got a rate increase on his plan F and it's going up to $132.78 from $96.47. I called United of Omaha and asked if the husband wanted to switch to Plan M or N or the new Plan F under the modernized plans if it would be guarantee issue. It will not be. If you want to switch your clients over to any of the new modernized plans - it is underwritten

AARP/United Health Care clients can make the change to Plans M or N or any of the new modernized plans on a guaranteed issue basis. I might have some clients call and switch from their old Plan F to the new Plan F because the rate is a little cheaper. The # i was told that the clients call is 800-523-5800. The client just needs to say he wants to change over to the newer plans AND that they want to keep you as their agent. They didn't tell me that part yesterday when i called

That's not what the application and thier policy in writing said. Don't believe every $6/hr clerk on the phone.

Read the app. If he wants to switch to N, does not have ERSD... he is GI.

Is it online under forms - the new app. I'll check it out. I didn't see on the app the guarantee issue. The only thing I found on Moo website about guarantee issue was they will give guarantee issue for people who have Plan J.

Where are you guys seeing this. The underwriter didn't seem to think it would be guarantee issue, but who knows

I see where you're getting guarantee issue for UO clients....you must be in MO. They are allowing it in that state because of your rules, but they're not doing it most of the other states

For those with questions about how current clients are effected by modernized plans this is from Mutual of Omaha Website

A common question about the transition to the Medigap modernized plans is what happens to your current policyholders' plans.
The answer is simple: Your clients may keep their standardized plans, including those being eliminated on June 1 (Plan J for example). What's more:
  • Standardized Plans are Grandfathered -- This is good news for you and your clients. You're not required to convert current clients to modernized plans. Your clients won't be automatically switched to or forced to convert to modernized plans. Your clients with these plans may keep them as long as premiums are paid. Coverage is guaranteed renewable for life.
  • Standardized Plan Benefits Don't Change -- In fact, standardized plans may contain benefits that aren't in the modernized plans. For example, clients with Plan G today would gain the hospice benefit but lose the at-home recovery benefit if they buy Plan G after June 1.
  • Plan J Guarantee Issue Conversion Privilege -- Your Plan J clients may keep their plan or replace it anytime with another Medicare supplement we offer in the state (including a modernized plan effective on or after June 1). The new policy will be guaranteed issue.
Hope this helps

I called an underwriter again today at UO and this time they told me in Mi that plan M is not guarantee issue but Plan N is. They did say they'd ask height/weight/smoker and end stage renal but not the other health questions. I guess we'll just have to wait for them to get a little more clear on the new plans

Ht/Wt and smoker questions are not considered to be health questions. That is why even in MO where we have the annual GI law companies can still rate up for build and tobacco use. Now that does not mean all companies will. Some companies say that if someone is GI then don't ask ht/wt questions or tobacco questions... this is one area companies have latitude to do what they decide as general practice.
