My personal experience with Aflac

Re: Working for Aflac?

Didn't notice the link that you had sent. However, that contract is from 2003. I've list just a few of the provisions on a current AFLAC contract.
I believe it is pretty good. Which do you sell?

Aflac's Personal Short-Term Disabilty

Employee chooses monthly benefit of up to $5000.00/month (based on salary). He/she also chooses a 3, 6, 12, or 24 month benefit period.
They also choose between 10 different waiting periods, anywhere from 0 days to 180 days.

Also, like Illinois Mutual's STD, Waiver of Premium and Own Occupation.

Re: Working for Aflac?

I was not talking about the "indemnity" I was talking about paying cash to the policy holder

I'm wondering how the two plans are different? I understand the definition of indemnity.

Re: Working for Aflac?

Before I read all the pages I'd like to add some comments.I was just hired by aflac and the commission was 45% but on the second meeting they adjusted it to 53%. I thought that was pretty cool.

They had me go to a training class for 3 days, then one in the field, and back for review. What I learned from my direct manager was the average commission will be about 25%. And the bulk of your business is door to door business, begging for referrals. Zero leads with all that advertising. No territory so everyone works over the same businesses. And the pitch to get into the door is like they're afraid to announce who they're with. We were taught to be as evasive as possible initially.

I saw a decent product, an excellent advertising campaign for name recognition and then a horrible commission structure based on the avenue of generating business. Not to mention the angle of approaching a business owner. There are people who love aflac just because of the duck. And the company's record for paying the policyholder/family member is commendable so people love that. Based on that I will write those people but I won't go hustle business...not for 25%.

I felt the same way. The policies seem solid. Name recognition is outstanding. Why the need to lie to every single business owner you call? "I just opened a new business in the area and want to mail your owner some information on my company." Um, this is a blatant lie.

I was very turned off by the way the agents are taught to approach business owners. Lie to get information. Be as evasive as possible. Pretend like you know the business owner personally or you've already spoken to them. Ugh. Whatever.

I know there are successful people in all areas of sales who don't do shady things like this. Like you said the plans are all very good, and from what I've seen, Aflac is pretty consistant on paying out clams. Why the need to be so deceitful?

The need for deceit comes from fact that AFLAC over saturates the market. There are so many new agents climbing over one another for sales that business owners are inundated with solicitations from AFLAC. If you were to say AFLAC right away, they would hang up, show you the door, or punch you in the face. They are that sick of hearing from AFLAC agents. AFLAC has no coordinated marketing plan for their agents. Instead, it is a free-for-all and done blitzkrieg style. If you were on the receiving end of this, you would be pissed at the duck too.

Truth of thematter is that you can get contracted with a number of different companies that have the same EXACT plans as Aflac, do exactly what they are telling you to do (except this time you wont be lieng b/c you really did just open up your own bussiness)... and make double the commission ... I get 50% on most products that Aflac pays its agents 20 or 30...

Re: Working for Aflac?

so what does a $5,000 for 24 with 30 day wait cost per mo.....
