My personal experience with Aflac

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

125 is not an insurance product...and can you back that up with any real data or did you just make that up?...next.

You don't see and sell the CEO of any corporation, you at best get to see an HR person (not a director, either)...next.

I bet that at least one of the following insurance companies provides deferred comp/buy-sell/SERP or other to Walmart (one "L" by the way)

Northwestern Mutual Life*
MassMutual
Prudential
New York Life*

Sorry, but the two with asterisks both provide corporate funded life insurance to Walmart executives. The premiums are disclosed in the annual statement....next.

Survey is based on payrolled employees of companies, not independent contractors. Anyone selling AFLAC plans did not participate in this survey...next.

Why would a life insurance company treat cancer? And I don't think AFLAC cured the little girl, I am sure some doctors that are not employees of AFLAC did that...next.

If AFLAC is curing cancer, why do they sell cancer policies to pay people who get cancer? Wouldn't curing it eliminate the need for a cancer policy to cover it?

AFLAC # 164 on the fortune 500 list.. #1 provider of sec.125 plans. Over 350,000 payroll accounts. These are the facts---

Gee hodaka1974

For a minute I thought you were with Primerica. Been a long time since I've heard someone defend an insurance company like that. Reminds me of the not so good ol' days:D
What?? AFLAC is far above Primerica. Sorry that everyone here hates AFLAC, but if they are such a "bad" company how could they have $15,393 ($mil) in sales last year? how could they have a rating of A++?
be #30 on the list of 100 top companies to wrok for?

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

AFLAC is the bottom rung of the business. AFLAC might be rated as a good company to work for but as independent agent you dont work for them and that survey is based on their employees in Georgia, etc.

Winter

#164 on the fortune 500 list is the bottom rung to you?? and you would not like to be in business with a company that is rank # 30 on the top 100 companies to wrok for? with out a uber "back/home office" the independent agent is nothing.

What year is your list?

Still impressive though. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

Maybe the lowly AFLAC agents are happy there after all?

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

My answer is that anyone who would ask this question about choosing between NYL and AFLAC has not done their own due diligence and has not decided what market is most attractive to themselves.

I am convinced that so many of us struggle for so long or give up and drop out because we jump in bed with the first company we talk to. We swallow their song and dance hook line and sinker and then figure out after we are burned there what we have really gotten into. I spent time with American Income, Bankers, Pyramid, and an independent and they were all mistakes.

After that I figured out to do my due diligencne and to interview with every major player in my area. Now I know who and what MM, NWM, Guardian, NYL, Metlife, Western Southern, or a Commonwealth are about. My criteria would be to find a strong reputable company with competitive products focused in the markets I am most interested in but most important of all where I would have a MENTOR.

In regard to NYL and AFLAC all I can say is NYL has more MDRT members than any other company, since the 1950s. That says a lot about their culture. The total compensation is pretty good. Plus, they have a very rich defined benefit program that only takes 20 years to vest. If I were a new agent, I would definitely consider this seriously.

No mater who you work for, what company it is, the end result is you, and how you take on the task of doing the work.
This is a real hard job at first. the first 1-5 years it is an up hill fight. Many agents wash out after the first 2 years, never staying long enough for the big pay off.
This is the hardest $50K a year job in the world, but is the easiest $100k +++ a year job on the planet..

They used to have an even better one.... then things changed. Anybody in this business had better realize loyalty is a one way street as a captive agent. All it takes for things to change is the person at the top retires and his replacement has a different "view"....

On a local level it will depend who you work with. No company is immune to bad managers, even the name companies.

Always look around and see what is really going on.. because even if it's in writing it may not matter five years or ten years from now. READ your contracts before you sign... we are all at will and can have our contracts terminated with 30 days notice without cause...

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

are you kidding me? If you even need to ask you either

a.) are new to this business, or

b.) shouldnt be in the business.

Im just ribbing you here of course, NYL. Product, training, history..

Re: New York Life or AFLAC ?

NYL. I haven't worked for either, but have interviewed with both. NYL is rich in tradition. However, I wasn't very encouraged in what they told me regarding leads. He told me I need to make a list of my family members and friends to see how many lead I can generate. I am sure this would work for some, but not for me. You can always buy leads.

On the other hand, AFLAC asks you to pound the pavement trying to get employers to allow you to offer AFLAC to his/her employees. I thought persistency would be a huge issue and am not thrilled with pounding pavement although it is a good marketing ave. Goodluck
