Navigators Wanted - $48 Per Hour

Well, if $5 Billion could cover 100,000 under PCIP, $54 Million should cover about 1,000 Naviguessers. It's guv'ment math, afterall :D

"Who got mo' money than they know what to do wif? The Guv'ment."

I don't think single payer will happen. Too much money. Can't afford it.

Even if it does that creates an expanded supplement (as in Medigap) industry.

I read that: HHS is requesting from Congress an additional $554 million to be used for outreach and education related to implementation of PPACA. But highly doubtful given GOP house control

Oregon has it's exchange up and running and is recruiting 'customer service representatives'.

From the job posting:
When appropriate, the Customer Service Representative will make referrals to licensed insurance agents or Community Partners in the customer's community for further assistance and consultation.

It appears that at least Oregon on it's face is encouraging their navigators to utilize us. In fact, on their Partners and Agents page, when affiliating with the exchange as an agent, the exchange will pay the commission. It also doesn't appear that you need to contract directly with the carriers, only with the exchange.

Wouldn't it be better for the Insurance Carriers to pay the commissions? Personally, I wouldn't want to rely on something as tenuous as one of these Exchanges for long-term income.

Agents selling in states with FFE's will have virtually no competition wth NAV's, as there won't be any or enough to even cross their paths. Start your engines............

Asked about how Baltimore will have more money for consumer assistance than the entire state of Florida, HCAM chief executive Kathleen Westcoat laughed.
"Maryland is putting its money where its mouth is," she said.

Texas, with the nation's highest uninsured rate of about 24 percent, will get as much as $8 million to enroll about 5 million uninsured people in a federally run marketplace. That's less than $2 per uninsured resident — compared with about $31 per person in Maryland.
