NetQuote Increasing Prices...is this the Straw?

OH
damn, I just spent 30min+ typing my heart out and for some reason the thread didn't get started and I had to log back in.

well, I started using netquote in march (2.5 months ago), ive spent $600 so far, I cant count how many leads ive received and how much I have been credited, but I can tell ive made some noob-like mistakes which I feel this forum could've/should've helped me avoid since im a loyal lurker for a year now. I even passed up a topgun membership(and the mandatory colonoscopy) with ease and no regret because the ease of anonymous lurkage allowable at this site.

so my first question to the all you guys(who I owe a great deal to, that have helped me stay in this crazy biz) should I continue paying netquote?

again, I only sell life, di, ltc, annuity, ira, 529, 403b, etc..no health/FE/Medsupp/auto.

ive made $2000 so far. (unless they lapse, which I wouldn't be surprised for one, but the other two would be a random smack in my face)

Doesn't matter that it went up. You spent $600 and wrote $2,000 over 3-months. You need more leads no matter what NetQuote does. You are dieing a slow death.

If you want to sell traditional life I would get directly under someone that kills it and learn from them. Term over the phone with shared leads seems like a rough way to start out. But if that's what you want to do you need leads and lots of them. I would learn to be a specialist at whatever you like but don't sell 8-different things.

That's my opinion. But it's coming from an FE guy so I could be wrong.

dying a slow death? Thats some good news, because I help people find ways to avoid running out of money, and are concerned with the rising costs of long-term care, tell me, have you had to care for a relative....anyways, I may not be a product expert in annuities, or ltc, but I am an expert at planning for the future, and helping protect my clients through various stages of life.
Ive come to realize that if I can relay that message on my first reach, ive separated myself from the other agents.
problem is, there aren't too many other agents, and im actually competing with auto-dialer that annoy the crap out of my prospects to the point the no longer even want to discuss life insurance.
I went on hometown quotes, and requested a life insurance agent to call me...my blackberry went off, I am my own lead, so ill see how many others call.
I messed up for a whole month by not changing my zip codes to ones that were more affluent neighborhoods, for a while I was getting completely uninsurable leads.
since my switch, ive completed a fact-finder on a lawyer and a dentist, so hopefully those can be big cases.

Very ethical of you. Every one of those agents will be paying for that bogus lead you put in.

Rick

so far its just me, but if someone calls, I will answer and explain, I don't pee in the well, but id like to know who/what my competition is. plus, its very easy to get a credit from a lead made by an agent, its actually one of the only 6 ways you can get a refund.

If you believe that's ethical then fine. Those of us with more than 2 months experience will disagree with you.

Should you want to convince us, go ahead. I'm done with you.

done? with what? had we started something?

I did it mostly to experience what the customer would see so I know how to approach the lead. unethical would be using a fake name/address/and intentionally hurting other agents, which is not going to happen.

inexperienced, I cant refute, but blindly paying money into any marketing program is advice Id never dispute. So I only have a few months with internet leads under my belt, I cant change that, but I can get advice, and maybe someone who is in a similar situation as me, and feels the same way, may learn something from this thread.

now you're done with me.

I agree with you. Rick is just here to bust your chops and promote his lists for $20 per thousand that are supposedly 98% accurate...

This is excellent advice Gekko. You should follow it.
