I have read a lot on this forum about marketing ideas but not too much on networking. So far, networking has been a solid way for me to make new clients. It takes work and commitment and it doesn't pay off quickly but it does work.

One of the suggestions that was made to me was to join a group like Rotary or Kiwanis...I'm a bit unsure on these types of groups so does anyone have any comments? Does anyone have ideas but other service-related organizations that might be good for networking?

Thanks!

I've done some networking in this arena, and there's really only one tip I can give: do it, really dedicate yourself to it - but dedicate yourself to the mission of the service group, not to getting yourself business. If you go in with the idea that you're going to make connections and sell sell sell, you'll come away empty handed. On the other hand, if you go in, network, meet people, and forge bonds with them by serving in the same way that they do then you'll find yourself receiving business without asking for it.

LeTip was an organization I used to belong to when I lived in Los Angeles. Each city or market has their own chapter and is exclusive to a specific type of occupation. One dentist, one car salesman, one web guy etc...Each group varies in size and scope, some good, some lame. Check out a few prior to joining.

I wish we could get a BNI group started in our town again, we had one about 10 years ago. Do you know how I would go about contacting someone about this? The town is Beatrice, NE.

Why don't you look online for the regional director for your area. Tell them you are looking to start a chapter in your town. Others may be thinking the same thing. That, or he can direct you to a chapter in a neighboring town.
