New Agency

Congrats man, you did the right thing by getting an office space. It costs more than starting from home but it legitimizes you and give you a professional environment. The number one thing that worked for me is keeping a positive attitude and knowing that there are going to be ups and downs. Invest invest invest back into your business in forms of marketing, hiring, educating yourself and your staff, and streamlining your processes. You are what you do daily, so if you put together some good processes and you are consistent with them you will succeed. Good luck!!!!

So I am not legit because I work from home??:twitchy::no::swoon:

I started from home, but there came a time clients really wanted to come to the office. ALso, some carriers wouldn't even talk to me unless they saw the office.

EVERY single client that I've had that has shown a genuine desire to come to my office ( home ) has been a royal PITA. It has become a great "filter" for me to use.

gam, do you go to their homes or just do business by mail, etc?

I guess it depends on what kind of market you are in. I guess it is okay if you are in a rural market but in large markets such the one that I am in it would be inappropriate, in fact county zoning laws would not even permit you to have clients come to your home office.

In any case, the idea of having an office even if it is a small office tucked away somewhere is good as it is a professional environment with less distractions than a home

Well, I am on PHOENIX, and I have to say, your an *** if you have people come to your house! Ever heard of snail mail, or email, or paperless, or if its a big enough household I GO TO THEM!

I have a sperate mailing address, because I'm not stupid enough to have my HOME address on each and every policy mailed out to clients.

Most of the IA's I know, ALL work from home....:swoon:

writing mostly non standard auto is gonna be a b*&ch before too long without a csr. late payments, claims, cash payments, ... i'm gettin a headache thinkin about it.

I do a lot of cold calling in my Agency and generally those folks want to come into the office to bind just cause they aren't comfortable giving out SSN and other personal info to someone that randomly called them. We get away with telling some concerned folks to search us and google and call us back to make certain we are who we say we are but still some folks just like coming into the office and dealing face to face. I would say that 99% of the clients I have gained through internet leads have never stepped foot in my office.

Life Insurance has traditionally been sold at the home of the client for years. We try to use the same approach with P&C for our higher dollar clients. Smaller deals are done over the phone. Anyone who says "um...can I pay in cash every Friday" is NOT going to be one of our clients. There are plenty of agencies that LOVE this kind of client and have systems set up to cater to them. We're not that agency.
