New Agency

I almost NEVER have to ask for a SS#, so thats a lame excuse.

Lame excuse? sorry i didn't know that I was giving you an excuse, I would have thought of a much better excuse if I knew that that was what I was doing.

If a home office works for you, congratulations but you probably don't have staff. For folks that have staff and want to build a working atmosphere an office is the way to go

New to the Forum, but not new to insurance. Many preferred carriers will not deal with you unless you have an office, at least in California. If I could, I would work from my home, however it would be a little tight with Servers, printers and desks.

Good luck in the New agency. Cold Call until you are so sick of it you can't do it anymore, and then keep on cold calling!

Why get an office so quick? Work from home for a while, and throw all your money into marketing.

Red Blooded,

I agree but would like your input into this. If one is a new ia and just starting out, working out of the house is great but the problem is getting appointments. Joining a cluster can solve t his but it seems that many will not let a new indy agent in while working from home with no book of business established?

This seems to be the difficult part as then one would have to use online mga's like insurance noodle or superior access and it's pretty clear that it's okay to use them for the exception but to use to place a majority of your business is an issue.

How would you suggest one gets around this issue? Obviously working from home is great but it's a balancing act in then trying to get appointments while doing this and in addition to being a new indy agent.

Virtual office. You meet the carriers there and can have clients drop by at times as well. You can set hours as by-appointment or something since you are usually out prospecting, anyway.

Go online and look at rates, it might work out well for you. You can always do something like a cluster or be a AAA agent if possible in the area, they have nice carriers to use in the NC area.
