New Agent- 2 FE questions

I know many agents won't even bother to write them. I've never figured out why. If you're in the home, write it! If you don't write it, you automatically lose.

I'm with Todd on this one. Just write the biz. Will it chargeback? Probably. Unless your persistency is trash with a carrier, why not give it a whirl? I assume you're already putting back 20% of every commission to deal with chargebacks in the first place to offset this type of stuff.

You are running your business like a business right?

It's funny that I'm seeing this thread this morning regarding the safety issue.

I'm a new FE agent myself and it's certainly slow going right now for me. I have a guy who wants me to come see him tomorrow in an apartment complex that is known for its crime in recent years. It's a senior living apartment complex but the neighborhood it's in is terrible and there are vehicle thefts, armed robberies, etc there often. I'm a little terrified of going there and told him I'm only available at 9:00am since I'm pretty sure at that time of morning most of the trouble makers are still sleeping (HOPEFULLY).

I have been so slow lately that the prospect of making $600 off of this particular prospect is enough for me to want to risk it. Wish me luck!!!
Good luck!

That seems like a good tip for FE biz. Thanks!

Josh.. Great job.. should be mandatory viewing for every agent just entering the business and some of us that have been around awhile..

Or, any business..

MOST businesses don't have charge back. Granted, someone may complain and management will issue a refund or 'do over' etc., but MOST don't give a refund.

This FE biz, seems to be where YOU GET ADVANCED commissions and a customer can cancel at anytime.

I didn't think about that...thanks!
(better to sell them something)

Ask this question, "Mildred do you plan on going in a can (referring to cremation) or a box (referring to a casket)."

Funny little question that allows you to see what the client is thinking and knowing if they can get there premium wise. You can always up sale a cremation, and you work at down selling a full box funeral... the key is to get the client to tell you what's on their mind so you can start the conversation and have an idea where to lead it.

As to funny little questions... humor (especially self-deprecating) mixed into important questions keeps the conversation lite and friendly. People respond to that very well.

"Be funny - make money."

While you may not get "charged back" in many businesses, there are certainly financial ups and downs.. orders cancelled, returns (which is the equivalent to a charge back) etc. When you get a charge back in the insurance business, the net effect is your only loss is what you paid for the lead and your time. Often when a business such as my daughter's catering business receives a cancellation, she can be out several thousand dollars because she has already ordered the food. She may have collected an advance deposit but it is never enough to cover the losses. So, I repeat, Josh's advice is good for almost any new business owner.
