State Farm may be a good start for the short term (2-3 years), but for a career consider going the independent route. There have been two fairly successful SF agents in my area that have quit SF and gone the independent route

You know, the other thing to is the big picture. Insurance isn't really something you jump into for a few years, and jump out. It takes years of building. So, in general, in insurance you should be looking at 15yrs minimum.

So, State Farm is currently primarily personal insurance. Do you think the number of people that want to deal with a physical agent vs online will grow over the next 15 years or shrink? I think we all agree it's going to shrink. To you want to try to succeed in a market that is shrinking? Can you?

Best of luck to you! BTW, I looked up their website and I tried to get a GL quote out of curiosity but when I input their own zip code (77380), it comes up as "Unfortunately, we are unable to write insurance in the selected state." You may want to let them know.
