Jon, Hey welcome... I don't disagree that first-year producer income will be in that 25-40K range at the end of the year if you are working it. You can reasonably expect to take a bit to get your feet under you.

I like the idea of hiring on someplace a year or two to gain a sense of your day to day... be that captive or indy the experience is a plus. Only advice after your training period is to go somewhere truly independent or start your own agency when you are ready. Franchises and captives are going to leave you wanting more, unless you are the type that fails with too much freedom.

@Dreamiekid has the right idea... find an indy guy and produce for him, call carriers and work that side etc etc... this is a wax on, wax off type career, you gotta learn it before you earn it.
