Obama Press Conference: Health Care

Yeah, Jefferson and his cold cash.

His lawyers for the last year have been saying that he had a "reasonable eplanation" for the money in his freezer that would be revealed later.

Well, later is now and at the trial it turns out the money was a legitimate consulting fee that is legal for him to accept as a Senator and the money was in the freezer to "keep it safe."

Given the state of many banks, maybe the jury will buy it.

I mean really, every election we have all kinds of TV commercials here in the Tampa Bay area from those nice politicians, and how they are devoted to "protecting our seniors".

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Oh, I agree with that piece. He is walking into a firestorm the likes of which he has not seen.

That is why I said in an earlier post that if he likes negotiating and talking with the enemy he will find that the gals down at the local senior citizen center will make Iran and North Korea seem like a cakewalk before it is over.

He is flat out committeed to eliminating subsidy to MA's though. What is weird is that he talks about funding his health reform gig in part with savings from MA's. That's weird. You are robbing medicare to pay for the other piece thus creating an intergenerational firestorm. Even if one were to agree that medicare advantage needs to be eliminated, wouldnt it be because medicare itself is broke and you need to find savings just to salvage medicare? How the heck does it help to take it out of the medicare pie altogether. Weird.

It isnt weird once you understand the endgame

The endgame is cradle to the grave coverage with a single payer system. To do that you have to erode the power of private insurance and create an unlevel playing field. They will do this because medicare goes bankrupt due to demographics.

In 10 years we will have single payer in this country with managed care, triage, and end of life govt guidelines that will determine the level of care you can get unless you can pay a doctor cash on your own.

We will end up with a two tier system; one for the well to do and the other for the rest of the people.

I wonder how the solver (my new nick name for Barry) will solve the even bigger program of social security which has the exact same demographic challenge. I suspect their solution with be eugenics in character and those without the means to provide their own retirement and healthcare will be rationed and you will get two groups. The rich with the best care life expectancy of a one hundred and the poor life expectancy of 100. Before you say thats impossible look up the population council funded by John D Rockefeller in 1952.

The federal govt has $100 trillion in unfunded liability (SS, Medicare, budget deficit, govt pensions, VA benefits & pensions, PBGC) against a US GDP of $16 trillion and global GDP of $60 trillion.

No problem.

Barry will save or create $100 trillion in revenue over the next 10 years.

Oh, I got that piece too. He wants to peanut butter everything together into one system. As the Canadians, Brits, and French have. Long term care will get rolled into that too.

What I meant is weird though is that he would play his cards in a way that would bite off a fight with the medicare crowd right while he is trying to build support for his program. He should be avoiding anything that looks like a rationing of health care such as robbing medicare advantage/elderly to help the other parts of his program. I dont think that is smart strategically. Trust me, I know where he wants to go long term. We all know that rationing of care is going to be at the core. I just think it is a mistake to rob medicare in the midst rather than wait until his legislation is enacted. It's a side skirmish that will create a lot of casualties. We are not talking Iran here. We are talking the gals down at the senior center. They will destroy him and take no prisoners.

Yes I forgot how long you were allowed to live in the book 1984 but I remember it was 21 in the dystopic thriller Logan's Run and I believe it was called some euphemism (like carrousel) or some such newspeak.

It was indeed 30, and then you get "Renewed" and you get to start over again. I actually bought Logans Run on DVD a few weeks ago and it was kind of creepy how it is actually about the collapse of a liberal, utopian society where no one works and just lives for pleasure, so long as they don't live past 30! If you have not watched it recently, go and get it. You will see a ton of paralels as to where the new administration is trying to take our country.

I think Jefferson's best defense is that the freezer was used to prevent the deterioration of the currency!:swoon:
