Offered by AGLA

I am new to the insurance business. I posted a thread last week about becoming a new agent. I met with AGLA and they told me my bankruptcy is fine being that it is almost discharged. They have offered me, and I am thinking about accepting. Would this be good to do for experience and training? I am brand new to the field but have sales experience. Also with AGLA if they do not provide leads are their any ways I can get leads myself or pay for them? Any advice would be great! Or other suggestions for me starting as a new agent.

AGLA is not a bad place for a new agent to get started. A lot of how good your training will be will depend upon you and your Associate Manager.

If you have a good AM, he or she will train you, teaching you the products, how to prospect, make presentations and close. it will be up to you to take what they teach you and run with it.

If you have a less than stellar AM, then it is still up to you. There is a ton of help on AGLAs website if you will take the initiative to study it and then put it to use.

If you apply yourself with AGLA, you can make a decent living as an agent. If you decide to stay and move into management, most of the AMs I know are in the 70K+ range plus benefits. My AM was pulling in $140K a couple of years before he retired.

Just keep in mind, if you want to succeed with them, it is not a walk in the park.. It will take hard work, long hours and there will be times when you fell like throwing up your hands and quitting.

If you have specific questions, I will be more than happy to try to answer them. You can post here or PM me.

Thanks! So does AGLA have a lead system or is there anyway I can get leads on my own? Any lead systems out there?

Forgot to answer that one!.. They furnish very few leads but they do have several systems where you can purchase leads. They should teach you what is available. If, not you can learn about them on the agents website. Like many captive companies, they will ask you to do a project 100 and a market research survey to start with. A lot people hate doing those but just suck it up and do your best,, On the project 100, do not approach trying to think about who needs insurance or even who you can get an appoint with. Just list the names and information of anyone who comes to mind.. If they aren't family or close friends, so much the better.. You are going to be ably to survive selling only friends and relatives. You are going to have to learn to apporach people you don't know or barely know. Listing these people will make you AM earn their bread when the two of you approach them:)

Something I used with a bit of success was the magic box.. They will explain it to you but it is simply a box they will furnish that you place in a public place such as a restaurant offering some small gift such as a gift certificate to the winner of a drawing.

Get creative.. Try to think of unique ways you can approach people and pique their interest. Don't forgo the tried and true ways but don't neglect to try new approaches.

Yes, they are good. I might be working on something like this as well. We could post on here- our progress together and compare and contrast, see what we learn and what we have to share.

AGLA will give you some orphans you can call on. However, you are on your own to develop leads. My daughter has done it with AGLA from people she knows, referrals, orphans, and cold walking businesses.

ask who is the most successful AM and request to be on their team

It also helps if you get assigned a 'book' of 300-500 customers instead of a new 'book' with only 50-100 but either way you can contact existing customers for reviews...just be aware that if they have had heavy agent turnover in the office you will be working out of then these customers will let you know you are the 3rd or 4th agent to contact them in the last year or two so you'll have to win them over :) to sell appointment to lead to additional coverage and earn referrals

AGLA is AIG. When it come to insurance; 1. trust the company. 2. trust your agents. 3. Review their products.

AGLA policyholders are not told everything. I wouldn't trust a company that needed a bailout. ALGA sells only one product. It is always better for the client to have choices rather than a one policy fits all. I look forward to replacing AGLA policies. These AGLA AGENTS are creating a lot of business for me.
