Suppose a client turns 65 ,in March for example, and enrolls in medicare but does not enroll in a pdp plan. Then suppose that next June he decides he wants to sign up for a pdp plan. Can he just do that and pay the penalty considering that it is still an initial enrollment or does he need to wait until AEP?

Thanks.

If you are asking about June in the same year the person was 65 in March, it would still be their ICEP for a PDP and there would be no penalty. It would be effective July 1. They could then change it or drop it during AEP.

If they didn't enroll in a PDP by July 1, they couldn't until AEP and they would have a penalty.

This is all assuming, of course, that there is no SEP situation available for the person.

Wow! You answered that question PDQ.

Yep, PDQ is an acronym used by the united healthcare one source supply order portal. This recently "updated" portal is somewhat faster then a DOS 286 processor and has multiple drop down screens that need to be repetitively clicked in order to eventually get your order PDQ. And after you go through this carpal tunnel sysndrom portal, and finally discover that it still lists 2007 products and is missing 2009 products, you will then understand the true meaning of PDS.
