PFFS Plans Vs. Med Supps

"If MA Plans go away, as most of you desire, what is to become of those that cannot afford $180 to $260 per month?"
================================================

Er uh they can get in line at the local welfare office and apply for assistance just like anyone else has to do when they are poor! Theres lots of tight ass people on those MA plans that could afford supplements. Im going to guestimate that more then half of those people on those MA plans could afford a supplement. And lets not never forget that selling those MA plans could get someone killed did I say that yet?:1eek:

Yoda, all I have to say to you is that you're an ***!!! Do you think you could live on the money that some seniors do???? I DON'T THINK SO!!! Get off your high horse, and have some stinking compassion!!! No wonder people on this forum don't like you!!! You're a jerkwad!!

Its my sincere true caring for seniors that would never allow me to steer them into instruments of death er I mean MA plans. I will not jeopardize their lives by selling them a MA plan just so I can make a dollar. That my friend is the definition of compassion. Now you have a good night and lets all pray that you have not got someone in deep trouble or endangered their lives by putting them on one of those MA plans. :1eek:

So Yoda, are you insured under a PPO yourself? Every one of my IFP clients are in a PPO.

Why would a PPO be an iinstrument of deatlh for a senior?

I'll give you some time to come up with a stupid answer.

Rick

You know Rick, I thought the same thing!!!!! ;) He's stupid!! A MA or MAPD is the ONLY way for some Seniors... not just because of the money, but their HEALTH issues....

I have a fella up here with MS, wheelchair bound, and he's paying close to $300 a month with his Supp. He's only 54 years old. For Pennsylvania, I can get them into a Supplemental policy paying the same amount as a Senior that is turning 65, which would be approximately 90 a month. BUT because of his health conditions, there isn't a company that I'm appointed with that would accept him. But the "cadillac" of the MAPD would!!!! I don't think I did an injustice to this man by saving him over $200 (a month), if you include the cost of his PDP.... He was thrilled! I told him with the money that he was saving.. stick $100.00 of it aside a month for the copay's.... His wife is determined enough that she'll do it!!!!

I'm glad to know that not all folks from Alabama are like you!! And if you can be selective in who you will write a policy for, then whoopy dooo for you, I can't!! I won't, however, sell a MAPD, just to make a buck!! IF IT'S NOT IN THEIR BEST INTEREST I WILL NOT DO IT!!! But in some cases it is!! I have lost a sale, probably 4 of them, in my measly 9 months.... becasue I advised a couple or two to just keep their Supp, it was in their best interest, do you know they thanked me for the HONESTY...

So contrary to your belief, not all agents selling a MAPD or MA is out for just a dollar or two.

Coventry dropped their PFFS plans as of Dec. 31, 2009. She may have the disenrollment letter which gives her a GI right to buy a med sup. If she was in a PPO/HMO with Coventry, she may still have that.

If you are going to deal with her further, you must find out what she has or doesn't have.

That's what she had. I've actually talked to a lot of people in that area that had coventry....so now and can call them back and push a med supp? I also find it hard to believe someone can't afford $124 per month...how are they going to pay their bills when they take ill and have to go to the hospital?

Lets see now, what are the odds that someone wheelchair bound with MS will not land in a hospital this year for at least a couple of days? I would not take that bet. Its highly likely that this person will be hospitalized this year and thanks to you they will now have to pay what 200-300 for each day. And how many times a year does somebody with MS and wheelchair bound go to a Dr? Quite a few I bet and it could escalate to a lot of days real quick when your talking MS. This person had enough to worry about just staying healthy and feeling good without now having to worry about coming up with hundreds if not thousands of dollars in co-pays and wondering if this new insurance they have will cover their bills. You did not do this person a service you did them a dis-service. What if they come out with some treatment for MS that your mickey mouse MA company decides they are not going to cover? People who are chronically ill and of bad health are the worst candidates for MA plans. The absolute worst. To sit there like you are and trumpet that you did this person a favor is a comeplete crock of crap. We have yet to see how much you have helped this person out but I would be willing to bet they would of been much better off if you would of just left their insurance alone and kept your so called medicare expertise to your self.:1arghh:I could walk right in that house and kick you and your MA out in about 5 minutes did I say that yet?

You're not worth debating with, but the MAPD that I sold him, has $0.00 copays. $0.00 ER, $10.00 specialist, if he goes in the hospital...$0.00 copay... no limit to the number of days...The only copays he has is for an ambulance at $25.00... and in the nursing home for days 16-55 it's $25.00 a day... say what you will... I'm not trying to be on a "high horse" or have the attitude that I know more than anyone else... but He was happy, his wife was happy, and I left there feeling like I have helped them.

I don't advocate them all the time, MA, because I don't feel they are the best for every situation..

I've sold several for the same reason as Jessica. I actually get a lot of people over 70 that never had a med supp, and now they can't get underwriting with any because they have MS or COPD. Also, for people in the state of TN, if you're under 65 no med supp will touch you, but MA and MAPDs work just fine. They are the only alternative to GI individual health for someone in TN, unless they want to stick with just Original Medicare. There is definately a niche in the market for those products, and agents are not wrong every time they sell one. They also are good for someone that is financially on the verge of medicaid, and cannot afford a med supp, or has just been dropped off medicaid. There are people out there that really can't afford 150 dollars a month each, and to say that it is their fault basically that they can't scrape it up is pretty reprehensible. As agents, we should be trying to help them any way we can, rather than just saying "oh well, you can't afford my med supp, then sorry I can't do anything for you". They are a very situational product. I would always go for the med supp first, preferably the F supp if they could afford it and pass underwriting, but that is not always the case. Also, look at the bright side, if they do cancel most of the MA and MAPD plans next year, all those people will be GI for medigaps so the unhealthy people that couldn't get one will be eligible.
