Pre-existing Conditions

I keep running into people that have pre-existing conditions and want to buy some health insurance.

I know that Obama has made some changes if you are under 25 you can now buy it or something.

I'm not a health insurance agent and know nothing about all the Obama changes.

Does the new law say that they have to sooner or later talk all pre-existing conditions?

If so, when will this happen?

Like peeler ins said GI only applies to up to 19. Rates up can be trecherous, we've seen upwards of 600% on a kid. No commission on that btw, even on the standard rate (with a few exceptions).

Highmark the largest carrier in PA sells child only and rates it if the pre x condition is severe. Not too bad actually.. had a cpl of really sick kids get insured for arund 200 per month. this is a PPO 250 ded 90/10 plan with 1500 max oop. Also.. they pay the full commish.

That is a very good rate for GI kids.

In CA, it is mandatory to sell GI kids (and all kids GI or not) 19 and under. Rate depends on the status of the kid.

Kids who are in birth month or considered "late enrollees" cannot be rated up more that double standard premium on GI.

Kids outside birth month who are not considered "late enrollees" are still GI insurable, but rate ups can be between 350% and 450% of standard cost plus a 20% penalty.

In 2014 no underwriting no pre-ex exclusions. Each state will have slightly different rules concerning inside or outside of the state exchange.

Small group will also be through an exchange called SHOP which will also differ by state. Some states may make SHOP and the individual exchange on single exchange, others may make two different exchanges.

The 25 year old thing is actually under 26 they can go back on Mommy or Daddy's group plan (or stay on) no matter whether they are a full-time student or not.

Mark, are you asking specifically about kids or just about pre-ex?

BTW, someone with stents and "almost a heart attack" can only buy PCIP.

Well I know a girl about 22, that had a brain tumor years ago, and now she can get insurance, because of the law change. Now sure how that works and all. Maybe she is now on her parents policy or something.

I'm not a health agent and I can't act like I understand any of that new health reform law crap. But I did remembering hearing that sooner or later, they will have to accept everyone. Just wondering how long before they have to do this and what all options does my carwash man have until the law changes.

Also, since I have Marfans, I feel stuck with Kaiser and also wanted about myself.

If she is on her parents plan she probably needs to stay there. Depends on her condition, treatment plan, how long ago, etc.

Once she ages off parents she can go on COBRA.

As for you, KP is your only option until 2014. Then you can buy any plan you want as long as you have a wheelbarrow full of money (or qualify for Medicaid).
