I met with a lady and her husband and she was paying 8.60 and told me that she had been paying for it for a long time and that it would cover all her funeral expenses. How can I dig deeper and find out just what this covers?

$ 8.60 mo is undoubtedly an ACCIDENTAL DEATH policy.
If not, it must be the funeral where they provide the zip up paper bag... and you just put granny out with next weeks trash.

Maybe it's a low cost cremation package of 5-gallon can of gas and a cricket lighter.

Why didn't you just put doubt in her mind while you were sitting with her. Along the lines of "Wow, thats great, unfortunately there have been some agents in this industry that will misrepresent their policies just to make a sale. It would be irresponsible of me as a licensed life insurance agent if I didn't examine this policy for you. Where do you keep it?" Or something along those lines.

Or "Great! Do you mind if I take a look at it? I just want to make sure the person who sold this policy to you was honest. My Grandmother had something similar but when the time came it didn't actually cover the costs of the burial and it put a great financial strain on my family."

I'm not sure why the title of this thread is Preneed Funeral Home.

Preneed Funeral Home Insurance has much HIGHER premiums than FE not lower. That's because they are never lifetime pay AND they have an increasing death benefit AND they are always GI or 1st day coverage that is priced the same as the GI option.

Get the policy and look at the details. PreNeed policies are all over the board. She could have anything from a lay away plan to full coverage. Most PreNeed policies lock in the price of the funeral. Be careful replacing PreNeed Contracts.

"Grab BOTH of her ears and pull her within kissing distance from u and tell her she's CRAZY!"

This reminds me of a time back in 1979. I had been selling Toyotas for about 3 months. I guy came in and wanted to trade in His Fiat Strada which was about 6 months old and had about 4,000 miles on it. He told me he paid 12K for it and wanted to get 9K for it on trade. I got it appraised by Clyde the gruff old used car manager. He hit it at $2,750. I asked him how in the hell do I tell him thats all his car is worth.

He said grab the acv and take it out to your desk and lay it on the table then lean way back in your chair and just tell him what its worth. So i asked Clyde why I needed to lean back and he said

"cuz the guy is probably going to try and pop ya in the face!"

I don't know if this has anything to do with the OP, but my understanding is that many years ago some funeral homes sold life insurance policies. In other words, they had their own small life insurance company that generally sold policies via debit agents. A few still do this although it may not be tied as closely to the funeral home company as it was originally. From what I've gathered, there has been some controversy with them not honoring these very small policies many years later as well. This isn't other funeral homes not honoring them but their own funeral home not honoring them or some other issue.
