"Preventive Services Coverage" Mandate Effective 9/23/2010.

The other issue is that while the primary costs for these screenings may not be that large, the secondary cost is: More screenings = more false + = more unnecessary follow up tests, treatments and procedures. Somewhat offset by the fact that some conditions will be caught earlier and treated. It all depends on the accuracy of the test and the effectiveness of treatment. Plus certain conditions that might never have gotten worse on their own will end up getting treated at great cost. There was some very illuminating research around this when the recent findings came out around raising the suggested age of mammographies.
Of course this gets into the whole flawed concept that expanding access to insurance will lower costs - it hasn't happened in Mass, and there is sound scientific/mathematical reasons for it

I have my prostate examined quite frequently at the local Korean Massage Parlor, hopefully, ObamaCare will cover this therapy as preventive.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Good news for all the Georgia agents. Down in East Point it appears they are signing people up for free mortgages. Better hurry though, thousands on welfare got in line before you.

We talk about all of these "changes" like folks are going to put down their twinkies and super-sized cokes and rush off to the doctor. The fact is the number of uninsured people is not going to change much (now or in 2014 IMO), and those who have had insurance will still act the exact same way they have for years. Ignoring preventative until they don't feel good anymore.
