"Preventive Services Coverage" Mandate Effective 9/23/2010.

Some states are allowing locally domiciled companies to wait until January 1, 2011 however.

That could explain why KP of GA opted to postpone changes until January.

Since Blue is a separate entity in each state, it would seem they would come under the same "exemption".

Doesn't explain why Carefirst BX added a new plan that has an option for the client to opt out of preventative. Assurant's brochure specifically addresses the mandate yet Coremed is charging coinsurance with a waiting period and $500 cap.

I suppose they will have to pass the bill so we can learn what is in it.

Wait. They already did that . . .

I want to be Pelosi's pet. Princess, teach me what is in thy healthcare bill...I'm waiting patiently at your feet.

Received an e-mail from one of our carriers www.iacusa.com today regarding their timeline for implementing healthcare reform. A small excerpt from a chart in the e-mail:

Issued with an effective date of September 23, 2010, through December 31, 2010:
January 1, 2011 – We will remove the plan lifetime maximum.
January 1, 2011 – Essential health and preventive care benefits will be updated to comply with health care reform.

This company has good plans and the majority of my customers stay for many years. But, how they can get by with delaying the 9/23/2010 Preventive (and other) mandates until January 1, 2011 is a mystery.

It's in the PPACA as an option for the carriers, apparently. They have to comply with the preventive/maximums/kid GI etc. either on 9/23 OR at the renewal of the product portfolio. Most portfolios renew each year on Jan 1 so they are going to use the option to unify and see where MLR goes as well.

In CA, only Anthem BC is updating for 9/23 on new sales. All other carriers are doing nothing on new or used until 1/1/11.
