Mr. Obama gave a great speech last week to get everyon on the same page. Lot's of entertainment value. Let's review the progress.
Since then:
Tom Harkin has taken over as head of the Senate Health Committee or whatever it is called (Kennedy's chair). He is a single payer guy but has flat out stated in the last week that there will be no bill without a public option as long as he is chair.
Also in the last week:
Olympia Snowe who is with the Gang of Six and Obama's only hope for bipartisanship has flat out stated that the public option is dead on arrival in the Senate, and that there is not a single republican vote for it in the Senate.
And:
Both parties have emphasized that if it is rammed through without republican support that it will be a dem victory for a week or two the everything will blow up in the program and in the 2010 elections.
Not getting good mileage out of that last speech. Might need to do some work.
Coming events: Baucas/Gang of Six says they are going to release their proposed plan tomorrow.
