Question About an Offer I Received

They do not offer a base. They provide leads that are from direct response letters sent.

They also do not charge for the use of the office or any literature that is needed.

They do cover the E&O insurance as well. What is the normal commission for a life insurance agent?

Thanks,

I just left a company where I was in the same situation as you. A few differences though, I paid my own E&O and license fees, but I believe I got higher commissions and renewals (a big difference IMO). Depends if you are talking about life or not. Does not seem like a good deal to me.

Think about it. License fee might be around $250 and E&O is <$500 a year. Why give up more than half of your commissions with no residuals?

Im not saying that you should go indy right at the beginning (I wouldn't have made it) but I would find a company with higher commissions.

And if you think that you aren't paying for office expenses....yes, yes you are.

p.s. What in hell kind of literature are you talking about? Sales materials? I hope they don't charge for that

That seems to be pretty common practice among small agencies.

Actually, I only posted to see what my avatar was going to be. No doubt, today is April 1.

That is too funny Scott, good job! I was kind of hoping to get the bouncing boobs. hahahaha

It depends on your situation, as it did for me.

When I started in sales (real estate, many a moon ago) I did not have very much working capital at all. I also did not have a network to rely on to jump start my business. Thus, it was important to me to have these expenses paid for by my company. I did not have any desk fees or e/o fees, but the house took a bigger cut.

I think it is a good route to take if you are just starting out, however you may be leary of any extended contracts or verbiage that restricts you to them for a long time. If it turns out you really love the industry and are able to create some success in sales, then you'll have plenty of bargaining power to create a sweetheart deal for yourself. If you decide you don't like this business and want to go in another direction, you'll not have invested anything more than time.

Best of luck!
