What if a 51 yr old male was diagnosed with copd 15 months ago. Good weight non smoker and no other health problems. UHL is $41 a month for $10k. What would be a better option for him?

Immediate coverage with Monumental as long as he is not on oxygen.

There is not reason for an FE agent to ever use UHL. Their rates are too high. Their underwriting is too strict. Their phone interview is waaay tooo long and invasive and you don't have an answer at the end. They also use nearest age when everyone else in the FE market uses last birthday.

Then to top it off they are Farm Bureau. That's enough reason right there to not write for them.

Starting in January when the customer is approved on PHI then the app will be issued for the applied premium and face amount. UHL is getting rid of APS requirements. So that is a good reason for a FE agent to use UHL. Also, I have never had a problem with their underwriting or rates.

I HATE age nearest. Here is an actual conversation I had last week and age nearest almost blew a $7,000 annual premium for me.

Me (after an application had been in underwriting for nearly 3 months) Great news! We finally have an approval for you. You got Standard Plus just like we figured.

Client: Great! What do I need to do now to finish it up?

Me: Well there is one detail we need to discuss. It took so long in underwriting that they are now rating you as a year older so the premium is $30 per month higher than the quote.

Client: that's impossible. I haven't had a birthday.

Me: I know. It's just how they figure age. You are now closer to 71 than 70 so they consider you 71.

Client: they yank me around for 3 months...then because I'm yanked around they want to penalize me for being a year older and I'm not really going to be a year older for 5 more months?!!!

Me: yes. But they will let us backdate to save age if you want to pay an extra $600 monthly premium for the first premium.

Client: let me make sure I have this correct. Some lousy sons-a-bitches, sat in a room and figured out a way to legally steal $600 extra dollars from me for the privilege of backdating to a birthday I've never had yet to save an age that I actually am?

Me: yes please.

Client: those greedy sons a bitches!
