Remote working perks

Yeah, you can work a little, you can work a lot. You can focus on this type of insurance, you can focus on that type. You can work from home, office, f2f, phone, or some combination of all. It's a sweet gig for the few of us that make it work. I definitely don't enjoy watching people try to break into the bizz and fail, but when I see it, and I do often, it reminds my how lucky I am.

I whole-heartedly agree. You (meaning the agent) need to figure out how they want to do things, asap. Then develop a plan and work it.

People fail out because of:

1) Money
2) Crappy IMOs/FMOs trying to sell people what THEY want vs what's best for the agent.
3) Trying to do what everyone else does vs what you want to do.

This is absolute true to an extent

but it think much bigger reason is because of work ethic, expectations and needing outside motivation

many think working from home equals relaxing in PJ's or hanging on the beach

Or that they don't have to work as hard I had to teach my family members that working from home does not mean I can just do things with the family at any time yes I have flexibility buts not not what people assume

some people just cant work without either having someone on their back OR at least have the motivation of fellow workers

Vic 100% agree . I used to look in horror at Medicare loa agents . But many must have that office structure ,constant being pumped up and free leads to make it . There's a reason 5% or so make it . I met this woman about 18 months ago . She was with American income life . She had been in the business 9 months but knew zip . She was already recruiting. She was on a 65% contract giving out 45-50% . She started to get hit with chargebacks . I begged her to come under me at 80-90% contracts and I'd give her free leads initially . She said she'd make big money there and refused . I looked at her Facebook yesterday . She's out of the business and took a regular job .

Morning office in Three Rivers CA.

My office = Wifi, phone, laptop and coffee.
;)

My first phone call ever was done 2004 in a recliner, with script somewhere within reach (mostly to remind me of the many qualifiers I had to remember then) relaxing in my home. Nothings changed. My calls two days ago, same thing. Recliner. Kicked back, Chilling.

Hair up in messy bun on top of head, no make-up, coffee, sloppy comfy clothes. Nothing changed except I don't have hangovers these days. Quit the sauce years ago. LOL. I do have an office but I have yet to set a medicare appt from there and rarely does a client want to meet there.

The only time this changes is when I'm on vacation (often). Then the office becomes a balcony in fla condo or hotel (winter), a picnic table while camping in pure michigan, the fifth wheel or on a boat anywhere with wifi, or a poolside that's quiet works well too (all summer)! In first week of October this year right before AEP, office will be in Vegas. :)

I do miss the old days once in a while when we would go into the office every Monday for some healthy competition in the boiler room phone pits, but that's what makes this forum even more helpful in the current Ins landscape. Boiler room has been long gone since the rise of ACA. The forum Helps keep me motivated AND up on what's what.

Those of us who make this work are blessed, as another poster mentioned. Not sure why I dipped out for 3 yrs...some kind of mid-life crisis or something but happy to be back at it.

Yup, yup and hang overs are for beginners: ).

This year my office has been in Maryland, a couple weeks every 3 months with my new granddaughter, Miami, multiple times in Beach front hotels on the Pacific Coast, Las Vegas, and in the California redwoods. And multiple Wineries, Breweries and music venues.

Just finished digitizing my file cabinets. What a job. The last 5 bins are going to the shredders next week. 5 file cabinets are being sold or donated. My portable multi machine, Surface Pro, noise canceling headset and flip flops fit in a very small carry on. I am going to try on the Grey Beard Digital Nomad boonie and flip flops.

I let my hair get longer now days, maybe that messy bun is in my future also.

What a great business.

Been to all of those, used to work in San Fran... Love Napa, and the rest you lobbed off there. Redwoods super cool! I could sit under or even inside one of those great big ass trees and make calls...sure would. Every four years or so that area beckons me back. Didn't work ins at any of them, but most certainly would...top of this cali list would be poolside Napa, at a sweet hotel. Vegas....shhhhhh, I'm definitely gettin up to no good there for a week. I'm taking my son to see some of his friends. I'll be on the loose, and gearing up.... Maybe I'll make some calls by the Bellagio fountains, but that probably wouldn't work--way too noisy, but the spa hot tubs there might work. haha

Cali has my first big sale ever. San-Leandro/Coca-Cola, pest control in early 20s, up to that point I did piddly accounts, chinese laundries, Tenderloin apts.... Haha. CC was a big deal for me, and I laugh now that I sold and serviced pest control there. It was great practice for sure. Empress of China was another biggie in China town. you know those? Jesus, the roaches in that city...ugh. Idk, I remember now, you might've been more of a LaJolla guy? My memory isn't what it used to be...lol

Hahahaha. Hangovers are for beginners! No vino for me anymore...:( break out in handcuffs. ha.

Wear your messy bun proud!!! I figure you must be semi-retired now anyway....doing whatever you want when you want.

Congrats on the new granddaughter, my 5 yr old gd is my pride and joy. She said she's gonna be an "insurance asian" when she grows up. She sells her "coloring pages" for a buck when people walk in my office on days I bring her in. LOL. I'm teaching her now...my pride and joy mini-me.

Enjoy that!!!! Ok, hells bells enough of the trip down memory lane, gotta do those stupid CECs. Not due til Nov. but wanna get it done long b4 end of June, when my summer play time starts and long b4 AHIP time.

I remember when you used to get mocked for "selling in your underwear" here.

The truth is some people want to work 80 hours a week and drive all over God's creation to get sales. Do you.

Some people don't. I definitely am one of those guys. I decided I wasn't going to work this weekend, Fri-Mon and clean up from the winter.

I've already got two calls I need to return on Tuesday and Tuesday is when it will happen.

In this business, you can succeed however you want, making as much or as little as you want.

We have it pretty good, compared to most financial licenses (even in Medicare.) It's up to the individual to be happy or not.

Don goes at a neckbreaking pace. God bless him because I couldn't keep up with his production or clientele.

Yeah, I make plenty working around 20hrs a week. I just can't justify working more hours to make more money I don't need and barely want. I can, though, definitely justify the extra free time to hike, workout, help my parents, volunteer, sleep, cook, etc. Those things definitely enhance my life. The extra money? Meh.

I'm a third generation entrepreneur. My grandfather ran a small engine repair shop and my dad took it over when grandfather died.

That's a lot of hours during the spring, summer and fall. I opted to say no thank you and worked for 14 years.

I help people get Medicare sorted for them and write. That's how I make money. I'm paid enough to cover my bills and not want for anything.

Anything more than that doesn't really add enjoyment to my life...

Although, now I need more heavy duty equipment to maintain my property. Trying to mow 3 acres with a 20 inch push mower is absolutely no fun.
