Rockefeller MLR Report & Public Comments to HHS

By controlling the budget they can eliminate funding for Obamacare and some of the other deals which will effectively kill it.

And then what?

Just saying no is not going to be anymore of a plan than it has been to date. I can agree that the hostility toward Obamare creates a perfect scenario for a one-two punch. Except the two is lacking. The view that obamacare is just an unruly animal that can be killed and then everything goes away is not one that I share. It just feeds into the public perception that the republicans really dont want health reform, they just want to stop obamacare. So they are forced between a crap plan that is doomed to fail or doing nothing which is another way to fail.

The polls show that people want health reform, they just dont want Obamacare. The polls also clearly show that even though they increasingly have no use for democrats that have as little or no use for republicans. It is easy to want to think that people are saying they want what we have now and everyone hates democrats now so that must mean they love Republicans more. They dont. It is a mess but leaders have become leaders by stepping into messes and providing leadership. Why the christ dont republicans try it and hopefully not frig it up like they did in January.

You want to stop this half-arse madness then you have to switch people off to a better more palatable plan. I have been around on this enough to know that many here do not believe that. Their strategy is to just resist Obama and to watch for any republicans who look like they want to discuss the issue and tear them down too because that will help make everything go away. Meanwhile, Obama and Pelosi have advanced their cause considerably and have had a major win. That is a fact. We can get ballsy and say that November is going to straighten everything out. Fine. Then what, 2012. Meanwhile rates and costs willl continue to spiral upward so fast that the public will hand Obama any authority he wants to implement crisis measures.
It is nuts. Message to Repubicans: Get a brain and get a strategy.
Frigging idiots.

Once the subsidies are in place, there is absolutely no turning back. Sorry, won't happen. Get more people dependent on the government tit, game over.

Small employer tax credits go into effect this year (before the mandates cause premiums to explode in 2014), try yanking those away after employers get use to them. Yes, I know they eventually phase out, but nothing has stopped the government from borrowing money from the Chinese or printing their own so far, why not just extend the credits with "funny money" until the keg runs out?

The employer subsidies sunset in 2016. I don't expect them to be renewed unless the Thai are willing to buy some of our worthless Treasuries.

The individual subsidies will have to be cut back as well, just as SS is paired back and Medicare keeps raising premiums and shifting more risk to the individual each year.

Washington can't keep playing this shell game forever. There aren't enough tax dollars available to keep it afloat even at 100% of income.

The keg has already been tilted and there is not much more to give. If the voters do their job, and those who are sent to DC as replacements don't forget why they are there, this thing can be turned around.

Otherwise it is game, set, match.

Any idea how hard it is to become a citizen of Costa Rica?
