Rough Sledding for Medicare Expansion

Actually MD is a great state for indie health, especially with MHIP as an option for uninsurables.

I recommend no one buy insurance in MD - why bother with the MHIP rules that encourage irresponsibility.

Although that's true it won't cover expenses incurred when you didn't have coverage - which is a huge risk for accidents.

My niece had a car accident last year, flown to shock trauma and 5 days inpatient. Have no idea what the tab was - over $50,000 for sure.

Without coverage she'd have been on the hook and she's actually still my sister's dependent - so it's possible that my sister could have been liable for those bills.

You really think a liberal from CT is going to block health insurance reform? You are all dreaming.

Of course not and no one is talking about that- and all of the commentary has been completely to the contrary. Sheesh.

Do I think that the libs will try, are trying, and have tried certain elements such as public option, medicare expansion etc that are dependent on support of the Liebermans and Olympia's of the world to make it happen. You betcha. Don't believe it? Just follow it daily.

Health reform has and is going to happen. What that looks like in the short run depends on what the dems can get for support. Duh!

Buy an accident plan for $30/mo and when you get sick go on state plan. Its the American way!

Accident plan would cover up to $5,000 - then you're ass out. Doesn't have to be an accident - my father just ended up in an ambulance and ER, then admitted over an illness. Again, nothing would have been covered without insurance.

Come on John there must be a way to screw the system!!!

You can indeed game the system in MD over some common illness. for example, get diagnosed with HBP and go grab MHIP. While that's fine you're still risking a lot without coverage.

BK laws changed a few years back, just because you don't wanna pay that $60K bill doesn't mean you're filing for BK - what it does mean is the court will take everything you earn outside of living expenses and you'll be on a 5 year payment plan.
