Sebelius Flounders on The Daily Show - Video

It seems that all of President Obama's minions are missing a wingnut when attempting to describe what's going on with Healthcare.gov.

Wording from the Democrat's grand poobah (Debbie Wasserman Schultz) during a MSNBC interview on 10/9/2013:

"REP. DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ (D-FL): So clearly we're eight days in and to be insisting on data being produced day by day for a six-month enrollment program is a little bit unfair. And, you know, the good news that came out of this problem and HHS has acknowledged that there's obviously been some technological problems with the server, but the good news out of that is that the servers were apparently designed to anticipate about 50,000 people a day going on the website and moving around and they -- it turns out it's been 250,000 a day. So it's very clear that there is demand."

I would like someone to ask our wonderful Secretary of HHS why the Medicare system, which has almost 30 million subscribers for Prescription Drug plans (half of whom are on Medicare Advantage plans) is able to handle everyone's plan selections each year in mostly a 7 week window AND has a website where you can find out all of the relevant plan information in a matter of minutes, wasn't duplicated to handle plans for the Affordable Care Act when in fact the healthcare.gov site was set up in a way that is the exact opposite?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Because medicare.gov is not trying to pull data from 95 different sources to verify your eligibility..

What 95 sources?

I thought they had waived all of the eligibility checking for 2014, that subsidies were going to be based on 'stated income' and since businesses did not have to provide health coverage that wasn't going to be checked either.

There is no justification for not having plans displayed without all of the personal information collected and verified, none.

There could be a subsidy calculator on the page, you calculate the subsidy and final premium based on the input and have an attestation that this is correct and subject to verification by the government within the first 90 days of coverage. If it's not verified they lose whatever extra money was provided in subsidies and enrollments flow.

Instead they created a giant funnel with an opening the size of a straw at the bottom, it's just incredibly stupid.

Your kidding, right?

Half the people there just wanted to see what it would cost. There is no need to create an account or verify jack to show rates. Allow the person to enter data to use for the calculations and then disclaim that the rates reflect only the information entered.

The conspiracy theory part of me says they did it to keep people from seeing rates and then blasting them for being high.

Couldn't agree more. I'll maintain that in many states, there are no rates. I called their number to get SC exchange rates. The guy first tried everything to get me back onto the site. After that failed he said he could take my app over the phone but allow 3 to 4 hours.

I said I wanted to go over some rates. He said - verbatim "I'm sorry but I cannot do that." He stated the process was to take my app over the phone, mail the app, I sign it and return it, then call back to go over rates.

I rebutted with "so you won't go over rates right now or you can't go over rates." And that was the end of the call.

geez, unreal..........

Wake up. Not even lead generation sites do this. They don't make you apply for coverage and then finally tell you what it would be. They just get some basic info for an agent to call you off of.

There was no good reason to have account creation precede seeing the rates. Pick your reason on why they did it, but it wasn't a good one. At best it was incompetence, at worse it is something nefarious.
