Show your age by posting a gadget kids today wouldn't understand

It wasn't too long ago that senior boys would keep their deer rifles in the gun racks of their trucks.

To be fair, it wasn't too long ago that a boy wouldn't think of using his deer rifle on anything but a deer. Or a squirrel if you really wanted to see an explosion of gore. Nowadays you give a kid a wedgie and the next day he's taking out 20 classmates.

When I was in high school, carrying a Buck knife on your belt was a big fad. I never got one because we were just too poor. But somewhere along the way, I'd picked up a cheap replica of an old military dagger at a flea market for $1. I strapped that to my belt and wore it to school every day of my junior year. Never got in trouble for it, or even questioned about it. Can you imagine a kid doing that now?

Back when parents were real terrorists 'allowed' to parent. Their weapons of mass destruction were whatever was handy. Belt, spoon or broom handle.

The 'takes a village' was more the neighborhood moms with their own weapons of mass destruction.

I don't remember any of them being members of the PTA.
