So Selling Dental is the New Fad Huh?

I know this is what everyone assumed would be the new "hot button" when health insurance went away, but good grief!

I am amazed at the voicemails I get everyday "Come sell Dental in 5 key states, make money every hour" "Free leads with a contract from 8-18% 12 month advance"

I can't imagine the persistency is very good on Dental! Seems like all of the marketers are pushing Assurant (rolls eyes).:D:D:D

Without our dental discount plan, we'd be hosed. My wife has had two major procedures that saved us thousands and we saved about 50% on my son's braces.

What dental plan do you have that reduces the cost of braces 50%? I have never seen one that will pay that much.

John, im all for Dental insurance as my family and I have it as well. I just get tired of the obnoxious marketers, acting like it is the next goldmine for agents.

Agreed. Agents should also be careful when selling it. Because local dentists are on the list doesn't mean they take it. I've personally run into that scenario a few times:

Dentist: "I don't care if I show up on that list, I've never even heard of that company."

I advise that before anyone signs up for a dental discount plan, they call the provider first to make sure they accept it. In my case, our dentist actually referred us to a plan he takes.

My wife and I have both had actual dental insurance before and IHMO, the discount plan is actually better.

I'd have to ask my wife for the name of it - she handles all that stuff. I know my son has braces on this front teeth for 10 months and the cost was $800. The original price was twice that.

John: Yes, please post which one gives your family those kinda discounts on ortho, etc. It sounds excellent.

With Assurant dental there are no networks, it works with ANY dentist.

No prob. But explain how the Assurant plan works without networks. Don't the dentists have to agree to a fee schedule?

Personally, I'm no fan of dental insurance. I've done the math on multiple occasions and it just doesn't add up. However, I have used discount plans before. Last year my daughter had to have her wisdom teeth out. I asked the oral surgeon's staff if they participated in discount plans. She said Careington. I paid a $20 application fee and $6.95 for one month of benefits and saved a little over $500. They also provided a 5% cash discount. That saved me an additional $100. What started out as a $2,500 procedure ended up costing me $1,900 plus the cost of the Careington discount plan. Not bad.

You would have likely ended up worse off with regular insurance. My wife had to get a new crown back when she was working for Nation's Bank. We thought we were set. Right. We got a 10% discount on the procedure since it wasn't covered.
