So...What's New?

Hi Ed, I'm still trying to absorb tons of data that I read this morning.

This article by Danny is so overwhelming that it looks more like a dissertation than a research article.

Google's Results Get More Personal With "Search Plus Your World"

The main takeaway from this, is that local businesses should get involved more in the social platforms. So when people share your content through Google+ etc., they will have their own personalized results which also include your links in their "Search Plus Your World".

A huge leap toward greater Google domination of our online activities.

Val.

They were talking about this on the radio this morning. I dont want my google plus or facebook info shared.

They have been implementing this for over 2 months now. It was sort of announced post-mortem.

If you look at results in google, and you happen to use plus, AND someone else you know does too and they +1ed something you search for (unlikely scenario), it already put the social result in position 5-10 on page 1 even though it wasn't naturally ranked there.

Bing has been influenced heavily by facebook likes for almost 3 months.

Difference I've seen in testing is that google plus only seems to matter IF someone you know +1's something. Facebook like seems to influence the entire organic result on bing/yahoo.

I think you'll see a lot more action on google+ once ice cream sandwich is out on the android platform to about 30-50% of the handsets, they're building google plus into everything on that OS from what I've read, which should cause some higher activity.

Summary.
Get your customers to +1 you.
Get everyone to like you on facebook, even if they're in other countries.

I dont think google + will ever take the place of facebook or be better.

It doesn't have to. Google's strategy seems to be to built it into everything, so no matter what you're doing, its there. You will be choosing to use it by using google.

Facebook is probably going to head that way also with bing, and you'll see 2 giant social media/search engines.

This sure doesn't help with keyword tracking, this month one of my sites got 375 organic searches so far this month, 40 of those were google personalized searches (clicky-"unknown").
