So What's Really Going to Happen to the Group Market

Also, if any of this follow MHIP ($50 fee to agents) don't hurt yourself checking the mailbox for that check. It's better to wait 3 to 4 months, then start thinking about getting it.

I wonder how long it's taking agents to get those PCIP checks? "Your check is currently in cue to be processed in September."

this is pretty messed up, taxes go to pay for other peoples health insurance, plus we gotta pay so people can know about these subsidized discount health plans. anyone got a realtor in the caymans or holland? at least there if im gonna get raped by the tax man, i can be high all day.

I agree with Peeler. He is spot on. You better reserve your exchange sites.

Laveena - Do you know what MAGI is? I've been in finance for 2 decades, and had to look it up myself. Most others won't know, most won't know that the IRS has their income wrong (higher/lower subsidies is result), throw in change of income projections because you don't want a clawback and you have a new role as an agent in the new world.

For the health portion, Part D is pretty automated, but people still get overwhelmed.

Just with 4 metal plan flavors, their is still choice until you have single payor.

Most of these people have never shopped on their own for health insurance as they've been spoon fed the ER plan. Most of my clients fit this definition.

Small groups under 50 will go bye bye. EE's won't be able to get subsidized if their group plan meets the "affordable" level at 8-9% of income. The un- intended and positive consequence of Obamacare is to detach insurance from your job. We would never had this Church/birth control issue if all owned private coverage.

Add more to it. What new business owner in their right mind (establishing their business after 2014) would even consider offering group health if they have under 50 employees?

Talk about a dead market.

Sorry Yagents, I am confused, what is your point.

Magi has to do with star-reading. Just kidding, it has to do with the inability of the govt to truly understand your income at any given point in time during the year so as to determine your subsidy. Is this what you are referring to? HHS has already announced ( 6 mos or so ago ) that trying to keep this straight is impossible.

Yes there will be four plan designs but so what. If your contention is that people cannot purchase health insurance without the assistance of an agent tell me how the millions of Americans do it now through either open enrollment or purchase on line.

Look, I am not trying to upset anyone. But the reality is that the individual market and small group market (say under 20 or so ) is dead, and will not generate commissions. As for under-50, I think that is a stretch.

I disagree. When HHS had to offer compensation to agents to help meet enrollment goals for the PCIP, it says everything. And it's $100 per life.

MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income) is what your subsidy is based on. Most people can barely find AGI. Modified adds back in some income that is initially excluded from AGI (I think tax exempt bonds, dividends, etc)

Give an employee more than 2 choices, and their asking their fellow employee what they did. And I just got off the phone with someone who tried to do it by themselves. Most people won't take the time, and most people make more money than the time is worth

STI, funny, me too
