Social Media Content - what Do You Do?

I've has success with social media not only in regards to retention but also to add additional lines to current accounts. But it all has to do with content. In addition to regular content I will post seasonal reminders and gaps that insureds may have. I.e. "Hurricane season is just around the corner. Do you have flood insurance?"

I can't debate that social media isn't a great resource. I would say about 1x/week my agency will get tagged by an existing client or referral source chiming in on somebody's rant against insurance or whatever. But it rarely converts. For my agency the niche market in the local real estate community & plain old word of mouth referral business out performs any social media endeavor I could invest in.

Now, maybe there's somebody out there who has a tech background or has a crazy awesome social media firm that does it for them...well great. That all costs money.

Referrals are free :-)

I have thought about video testimonials to post on my Facebook page by new clients..but I'm too busy writing new business to do it.

In the mode you're in, I'd focus on the new business too. No argument there. But at some point you'll surely want to slow your pace or hire some help to keep the business coming in so you can reap the benefits of owning the agency. When you're ready to step back, you'll want to have all those things already inplace, not scrambling to do them. You'll just be creating another job. Unless, of course, you delegate that responsibility. You get my drift. Sooner or later, you should be thinking a little more about it. For now, I envy your position. It's definitely where I'm trying to be.

Social Media can be a great way to support what you are already doing. Some great things about social media:

-Paid ads are very niche, and easy to find a specific target audience
-They help build your organic SEO (makes it easy for people to find you)
-Can be another form of credibility

There is more of a science you can implement with social media, but I would definitely recommend it!

If this sounds interesting or you want to hear more on how to do this, I am fine to write more about it. I work with a company who specializes in marketing so that is where my experience is coming from.

Good luck!

In my opinion this is the first valuable comment that has been made on this thread. You have my support @Marketingking ! The reason I say this is because he makes clear the quantifiable goal of implementing social media.

Now, I would also add that social doesn't always have to "outward" focused as everyone has put in this thread (getting your website more recognized, rank higher on search, put out your presence, impress credibility, etc). The best part about social today is the ability to LISTEN to what your prospects are engaging on. If you join an existing conversation, you're essentially manufacturing a sense of "warmth" and helps you make that lead warmer than simply cold.

Thoughts?

I'm not looking to make a bunch of sales off social media - not directly, anyway. I want to use it to help promote my referral program, but I don't want to do nothing but push it on my followers, I just want content to keep me at the forefront of their mind, stuff they'll find interesting.

After some digging, I'm trying out Swayy. Their really basic program is free, you just pay to add analytics reports and that sort of thing. Which will be worth a few bucks a month, I'm sure. I'm going to spend the next week or two seeing what kind of content they provide and go from there.

:biggrin:Thanks that's a great idea - going to ck out swayy - thanks again!:err:

I suppose it wasn't really insurance content, but Halloween was a bigger winner for us on social media! Between the shares, likes, and comments, we had over 800 views on that one post. Will anything come from it? Doubtful, but still kind of fun to see!

Unfortunately, swayy discontinued their social media content a couple of months ago. Focusing more on the development side of things or whatever. For now I'm pretty much just sharing interesting posts by carriers, reminding followers of referral program and giveaways, and anything else interesting and/or useful I run across.
