Some People Have More Nerve Than an Elephant on Ice Skates

Had a lady call me today to get medicare part d. She told me that she's ageing in but already has her supplement. She went directly to the carrier, as did her husband after speaking with me, and getting all of the info. several months ago (He's had his Rx card with me for 2 years, but already had a supplement at the time we hooked up for part d).

Then she wanted to continue the discussion of her Rx card. I was polite, but could hardly wait to get off of the phone. As cynical as I have become, I couldn't believe that this lady actually thought that I would want her business after she told me what they'd done with the info. that I'd given them.

What's even more puzzling is that she called to talk to me like we were "old friends". If they were so impressed with the advice and consideration that I gave them then why screw me on the big product and come back for the little one? Dementia? Spite? Anyway, they're going off of my holiday card list. That'll show em.

Happens to me as well.

Please pardon my ignorance, but can't agents obtain an Agent of Record in this scenario and then write the Part D plan too?

Not sure if the senior market operates the same was as IFP.

If you've already presented you and your products to a potential client and they decide to go elsewhere you don't need that kind of client. Screw em. I don't fight for a client.

No. You get to be on the hook for their service, yes.
You do not get paid, though. Nice, eh?

Agreed, however I have this "thing" where venting is sometimes required.

It's not as nice as the number of people I refer to Medicaid or CHIPS. Still waiting on my referral fees. To each their own, but I see ZERO incentive to help somebody in that type of situation UNLESS it's a family member or close friend.

There must be something seriously wrong with the client, it couldnt possibly you or your presentation.

Don't be a putz! You know what I'm saying.

I know my product, know how to serve my clients, know that I never lose a client unless they die or move to a state where I can't help them. That's fact enough. And in the OP's case... you present your services and the same product to a client and they go direct... SCREW EM.

I don't need/want that type of client.

We help our clients with PDP selection. They refer others to us. Some, not all, also give us the medsupp business when we help. If during the next year they still don't want me as their medsupp agent... don't ask for my help again with PDP.

Everyone gets ONE free sample...

Varies state by state. Here in Calif, Anthem does not allow AOR's. Exception: Only if the existing agent agrees to release the policy.
Blue Shield of California allows AOR's. The writing agent will always retain 70% of the commission.

Just had a lead that I spent time discussing some of his options and he ended up going directly through the carrier. I think the guy didnt know any better.

No. That won't show them anything. That will only lose you a future prospect, and referal source. I would call her up, explain to her what she had done, and tell her how you make a living. Ask her if you notice a rate increase with her current carrier would she like a phone call from you to write an app to save her money. If she says yes. Ask her if there is anyone who is over 65 that you could call and give a quote to save them money?

She probably doesn't know you lost pay over it and that it won't cost her any more than direct. Like the response above, I would explain how I make a living. If she feels guilty, she might refer you a bunch of people to make up for it.
