Just received notice of changes to Standard Life and Casualty's FE program. Rates up slightly but still should be among the lowest on FEXQUOTES in most cases, commissions reduced years 6-10 but the big change is the underwritting.. Ages 50+ will be a true Yes/no app and POS. Know before you leave the house if case is accepted.

They left FL and looks like they got hit this cycle and decided to raise rates and tighten UW.
Rates are raising slightly but underwriting seems to be a bit more liberal. They are also filing graded and modified plans.

Just to be clear, you both are talking about Standard Life & Casualty out of Salt Lake City, right?

(Not to be confused with Standard Life & Accident (SLAICO) out of Texas).

The rates still are amongst the best. Have you seen the new plan we just added from New Era Life? They are giving them a run for the money..

There is a huge problem that I have voiced to Standard, and are awaiting a response to.

They tightened further their underwriting on their Ht/Wgt, but are not releasing the guidelines! They said they think it will prevent agents from 'coaching' the applicants if they don't know the max weight. It's ridiculous because since they are very strict in that area, we have no clue whether or not they qualify and will have lots of unnecessary paperwork and time wasted if they are declined.

Big mistake on their part in my opinion. Agents need to know the guidelines so they know whether or not to quote and take an app. They have released the ht/wgt for their 49 and under app, but have chosen NOT to release it for their 50-85 ages, which is ridiculous.

ForeThought used to do the same with their Ht / Wt chart, it was locked in a vault there and only the head u/w knew what it was... j/k On the other hand if an agent has someone marginal in that dept you are likely to send them elsewhere which is possibly the method to their madness... they would rather not have those borderline cases. I can see both sides of the issue... and YES, some agents would coach a client. :goofy:

The rates I am seeing for New Era are more middle of the road, competitive with Colombian than SL&C.. What am I missing? The plan that is showing up (Tennessee) is their Standard Level Benefit.
