Start up help

Nver, just think about this. The two experienced agents on this page with nothing to gain from you going off on your own, are telling you not to do it.

The two on this thread that appear to have something to gain from you rushing in half cocked destined to fail are encouraging you.

Think about that.

The key word is "appear".

Everyone is not created equal. I don't believe in telling someone not to do something when you don't know anything about their capabilities. Just sayin.

Starting an insurance office with zero experience, he's got about a 1% chance of making it, at best. You can #believe all you want.

If he sets aside 6 to 18 months working for someone else to get a handle of the industry, then his chances of succeeding go up dramatically. If you want to encourage him to jump in blind and half cocked, putting himself, and perhaps his family at risk, and you can somehow sleep at night, you may have some soul-searching to do.

Its not that high.

The vast majority of insurance agents don't make it ten years.
Most new agencies don't make ten years either.

Why add both of these together? It makes no sense. Master Step One, Before you Go to Step Two.

Professionally I love doing this that others say that I can't and proving them wrong. And I really wish the best of luck. And for the record I have done what I believe you wish to do. But I spent 1 Year with a Captive Agent Insurer before I moved out on my own. And guess what? I wish I spent another year there.

The non-standard companies are the ones that might talk to you. Even they will want you to have some experience. Start with them. Someone above mentioned Bristol West. FInd out who the players are in CA and start calling them. CA is a tough state.
