Style/fashion

Hey, if you're really on a budget, get one or two nice, presentable outfits, this way since you're usually seeing different clients, they will never know the difference.

Excellent advice. Better to have a smaller number of quality items than a larger quantity of lower quality.

But what do I know...most days I'm sittin' here workin' in tennis shorts and a tank top...

Do you find that the style or fashion of your clothes is important in insurance sales (obviously when face to face)?

I know we want to wear business professional attire, which I have, however... I don't exactly have designer stuff. I have cheap dress shirts, slacks, and ties.

SHOULD I invest in more expensive, higher quality business attire? And how often do you generally wear a full suit? I don't even have one, so I will get myself a few if it will be paramount.

THANKS :)

It depends considerably on who you are calling on. If you are meeting with an auto mechanic you would dress differently than when meeting with a CEO of a professional company. If they are dressed in a tie, then you wear a tie... Suit, then you wear a suit... Now if you are calling on the lifeguard at the local pool, you can't wear swimwear... :-> There are minimum standards...

Casual is generally the order of the day most places today. Clean and neat clothes are a must, no matter what level or mode you are in. It does amaze me the guys that make calls in the same tie that has had chili stains on it for months... Some just refer to that as an afternoon snack. argh.

The very best shirt, slacks and shoes you can afford. Have a couple of nice sport coat and slacks and one or two quality suits. Never skimp on shirts, shoes or ties. I order a couple of custom made shirts twice a year, found a great tailor out of NYC that made me some shirts for $60 a shirt.

That's a good price, can you send me the info since I'm in LINY?

Absolutely, if you feel comfortable and confident, you're gold!

Thanks!

Custom Dress Shirts at Best Custom Shirt.com: Men's Dress Shirts, Custom Made Dress Shirts, Dress Shirt With French Cuff

They will run a 50% off promotion a couple times per year. Really like their shirts and service.
Custom shirts and suits give me a real different air of confidence. On my large case presentations if I am decked out in all custom made suit and shirt, nice tie and cole hahn shoes, I feel I have extra confidence that often makes a difference.

Just checked out the website. I use to get shirts and suits made all the time when I lived in Chicago. Not many places that offer that in the middle of no where.

Nice! I will be ordering several. Thanks for the link.

When ordering, especially if you are overweight like I am, I would let them walk you through the measurements and make sure they aren't too snug in the body. In addition, if you order white cuffs, with all custom shirts I have ever ordered, they tend to shrink over time, get them slightly larger than usual.

The logo for Georgia Insurance Options (my website) includes a penguin, and a lot of my copy in my marketing stuff revolves around that. I used to joke that, to stick with the penguin theme, I should go on appointments and B2B in a tuxedo. That was, shockingly, frowned upon.
