Style/fashion

I'm going to be selling to exurban/suburban old "Philadelphians-who-moved-out-to-the-suburbs-in-the-'70s" people.

Philly's dress attire is very dressy/ dark colors/ Italian, but I'm concerned I will scream out "city" if I dress in a dark grey dress shirt, black pants, and decent black shoes.

I want to appeal to the early baby boomers, without alienating the old school 1910s and 1920s people.

Maybe Khakis, dress shoes, and polo, or dress shirt?

Help me.. I don't want to look stuffy, yet don't want to look like a slob.

Also, what do people think about bringing laptops into seniors' houses? Will they kill a sale?

You will never go wrong in a nice suit and tie, you can always take the coat off and loosen the tie. You will never go wrong bringing in a laptop, shows you are prepared and cutting edge technology. First time I used a laptop in an interview, 4 shareholders considering LTC, ran several scenarios, they loved my ultra thin Sony laptop, left with a 14,000 LTC premium, they are now one of my larger clients, hunted last weekend with one of them.

Just be you, as it sounds you'll look fine, you can't worry about everyone and you can't please everyone!

When ordering, especially if you are overweight like I am, I would let them walk you through the measurements and make sure they aren't too snug in the body. In addition, if you order white cuffs, with all custom shirts I have ever ordered, they tend to shrink over time, get them slightly larger than usual.

I know how to do the laptop thing... I want to know how you train the ducks to hover overhead so your clients get a great shot, (or two), if need be...? That is what I call a powerful close, the "duck hover".

Hunted yesterday with a bank president, owner of very large truck firm and his son, and 2 lawyers, called the ducks within 25 yards and made them almost land then let the guys shoot, bring them in real close everybody shoots, I shot many of the ducks but denied hitting anything, grilled steaks for them and discussed many insurance related issues. Man I love this business.

I forsee a huge tax problem on the horizon for you B-marlin. Sweet.

Good thing there wasn't a ballistics investigation... :D

Well i'm glad i found this fourm. I decided before I started selling med supps that I was going on a limb and ditching the kaki (spelling) pants, loafers and sport coat. I told one of the guys who trained me that I was going to wear my pressed and starched jeans, a nice cinch or polo button down shirt and my very nice cowboy boots....he laughed his ass off at me. I however feel if you are working the rural areas your potential clients will feel more at ease. If you come knocking on my door looking like gordon gekko I'm probably going to tell you to get lost. I may throw on a sports coat from time to time but I'm damn comfortable dressed in jeans and boots......and i think I will sell more. Now if I'm going on an annuity sale, i may dress differently.

That's exactly what I wear. Nocona shark and 501's starched and pressed, polo button down and a leather jacket when it is cool out. Very seldom a sport coat. I too work in the country and know how to "hang around" the feed store on Saturday morning where the serve real country coffee.
