Success Stories- Building an Independent Agency

I have the luck (if you will) my wife has more ins sales experience than i do so pff the gate we are a two person show but on the down side we wont have another income to rely on. Needless to say were going all in

Yeah, i think im going to hire a CSR to handle things in the office while i go out and prospect.

Does anyone have any tips on winning over a BOP when pricing is the same? How do you sell better coverage with same pricing if they couldnt care less?

It's hard, you either need to have a better relationship, better coverage or better pricing. A very small percentage of buyers are overly concerned about coverage. I am not saying that all BOP's are the same but they are close enough that most buyers don't really care. When you are dealing with simple mainstreet business that fits into a BOP, you have to win on price or relationship.

SET GOALS!

If you have a spouse/significant other, set a goal, reasonable goals, and grow them from there.

1st goal, write 5 policies a week, if you make the goal, then you AND your partner, take Saturday off and you go out Friday night, you dont make the goal, you dont go out friday night and you work saturday.

Then make it 8 policies, then 12 etc.....

You and I are in the same boat. Good thing is we are now into it 12 years so the income level has gotten to a point were it's not as big of a concern as it used to be.

Good luck, it is very fulfilling starting a scratch agency with your bride and being successful...lots of challenges but fulfilling none the less.

To each his own, but my wife and I have found that things go better when she is not heavily involved in the business.

For most folks, this is the better choice.
