The Dismantling of ObamaCare - Ongoing Updates.

Well said!! Being a P&C (gotta have it lines) producer, many years ago I would give out referral's to health agents hopping to get a $$split, it almost never happened, the clients had money but would rather spend it other critical needs like boats, vacations and...................... that said I did run in to a lot of folks who (personal lines) wanted coverage had their checkbooks open but do to pre ex could not get literally any real plan soooooooooooo ???????????

GOP Health Plan Would Define Insurance Narrowly : Shots - Health News : NPR

And at HHS, Price may not be able to change much in the regulations, Bagley says in a post on the "Incidental Economist" blog.

"Price is hemmed in by the text of the ACA, which says that 'the scope of the essential health benefits' must be 'equal to the scope of benefits provided under a typical employer plan,' " he says.

An Institute of Medicine study found that employer plans generally are quite generous.

"If most employer plans cover the same stuff, you can't squeeze much juice out of a redefinition of the essential health benefits," Bagley says.

In other words, now that the government can't make them do it, a lot of people who can afford to buy health insurance simply won't do it anymore. And therein lies the problem. The role of government is to operate under the consent of the governed, not to act as the nanny state.[/INDENT]

CBO report on Trumpcare confirms it. You can't fix stupid--Commentary

The rest of the editorial is really good too,

It is disingenuous to say that people "choose " not to buy coverage. Every purchase has a value. Price is always weighed against value.

In my case, the least expensive HDHP with an acceptable network jumped from $12,000 to $20,000 in annual premium. This is for 3 members and a $6,400 OOP x2 family. A normal claims year for us is $1,000 and mostly from our wellness visit at $300 each. Fortunately, I can easily pay the $1,000 from any number of sources and not miss it.

I'm a fairly educated Healthcare and health insurance consumer and opted to do something different besides buying an ACA plans. The plans did not provide as much value as other options and I chose the other options. I note that regardless of my current and historical claims experience and overall good health, I'll never pass individual underwriting.

I have cash and knowledge and other options. People with different levels of those 3 things probably would make a different choices. Those with less cash would opt out sooner. Those with more cash or significant health issues would stay in longer.

The current Repub line that "it's their own choice to be without health insurance " is as bad as claiming "the Muslim ban isn't a Muslim ban, those people are just bad" and approaches the statement that my grand dad made way back when "I don't have anything against colors, I just won't rent to them". Things are what they are and those who can't afford cannot suddenly change that fact any more than one can change color.

The current administration is taking specific actions that negatively impact many and benefit the very wealthy.

We have problems. The problem is 1. lack of access and 2. price and 3. trend. We either deal with them or they lead to crashing the economy. We can't spend an ever increasing part of our production on Healthcare and people need to fee, like they have "enough " or they rise up and take it.

Somebody hit the nail on the head. We need term limits and possibly tort reform before healthcare is botched again.

Trump vowed to drain the swamp. I don't think he realized that the whole government was flooded.

We can't have legitimate change until our leaders are actually looking out for America, rather than getting re-elected.

Let's see, belong to 1 of 4 HMO's....no thank

In Israel you can buy their version of riders or upgrades to your basic coverage individually or your company provides it. PPO options, private hospitals etc. it's good.

It's similar to Medicare advantage only with upgrade options. It's also much cheaper.

Not to mention 4 carriers is actually pretty good.

I don't think those that voted for him realized or realize he is one of the swamp inhabitants. His actions speak louder than his words. You never know when his words are true and they frequently are false when not outright lies. His actions are in line with his beliefs. Larger government that he controls and profits from. Hotel proprietor in chief WTF!!!

1. Make networks illegal, as price fixing
2. Make providers publish their fees, as a dollar amount and as a percent of Medicare allowable, for every service code that their office uses.
3. Make doctors tell patients exactly what service codes are being provided.
4. Let patients decide on cost, quality, and necessity, based on input from their doctors and other trusted advisers.

Problem solved.

I love "reference based pricing" like self-funded groups are doing. Set a maximum (like 130% of Medicare allowable, for instance). This eliminates networks. If the patient gets balance billed, the insurance company goes after them for charging more than is reasonable, rather than making the client bare the cost.

Let's get back to cash prices, like a regular economy.

Yes, this eliminates cost shifting, and will alarm hospitals for unreimbursed care at the ER, but it would be less expensive to indemnify hospitals than the crazy dance we are doing now.

I like very much the first. It will allow competition between all providers. And everything else is good. They should be regulated much more than:1laugh: the ins industry.

Oh oh oh ! Lets finish with the election mess. I didn't like B Jr, but was able to sustain him 8 full years!

You can check for each country and see many variations, but it always is done through the government, even in Palestine (their authorities are paying to Israelis).
I don't know why here they want to discover the Hot Water?
