The Dismantling of ObamaCare - Ongoing Updates.

They don't have to repeal or fix anything.

Let Ocare die, which it mostly will by years and without any "help".

Allow things to go back to the way they were without govt meddling and fund a national risk pool.

DC always makes things way too complicated.

He should focus on taxes, let Obamacare explode and let the dems own it.

I'm just curious what you see exploding, and how long you'll think it will take.

Record profits, record performance, record returns for investors, across the board. More customers than ever, fewer uninsured than ever, higher approval than ever.

It keeps getting repeated that it's going to implode/explode, but I've never heard of that happening when there's record profits, more customers than ever, and no laws changing.

So profitable, insurance companies are dumping Obamacare plans left and right - at least here in Ohio. But since you asked, and you don't read the prior posts of this thread, here you go:

Where are these record profits? In IL bcbs (HCSC) the biggest carrier in IL I believe lost over a Billion dollars. United healthcare, Humana are pulling out and I believe Aetna is too. Maybe in Liberal Land you think because a company is still in business it's very profitable but in the real world, it's not.

You forgot the obligatory mic-drop...

Record profits, record performance, record returns for investors,

Carriers are profiting because they started diversifying AWAY FROM individual health insurance before 2014. Most started making their move when Obama was still organizing protests.

They are losing their butt's on individual health. Even carriers like Molina that did OK the first year or two is now reconsidering whether they should stay or not.

Oscar Health is also in retreat mode.

Phoenix Az, circa 2017.

14 carriers down to 1 carrier in 3 years. Premiums up 100% this year, on top of 20-30% in prior two years. Fastest growing major metro area in USA. But we don't matter, and how is that not an implosion and explosion at same time ? Blind, I tell yah.

In Georgia, Blue Cross is currently the only exchange health insurer in 96 of the 159 counties. Even a partial pullout would create a vacuum in areas of the state.

Anthem Inc., the parent company of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, “is leaning toward exiting a high percentage of the 144 rating regions in which it currently participates,”

Giant insurers UnitedHealthcare and Aetna, citing financial losses, have already pulled out of the exchange in Georgia and other states, and Humana has said it will do the same next year.

You and Ray are talking about 2 different issues.

1. HCSC lost $500 million on Individual business in 2014. Primarily because Senator Rubio got the reinsurance money pulled and they got 12 cents on the dollar.

2. HCSC didn't have a billion dollar loss. They were told by CMS in October that the billion they were expecting wasn't going to be showing up anytime soon.

3. No one really knows HCSC profits because technically they are still a "non-profit". This non-profit has a $2 Billion reserve. They did take $500 million out of the reserves in 2015, but my understanding is that the reserves are now back at $2 Billion. (And if you really want to be ill, go look at their executive bonuses)

4. FOR profit carriers, including Anthem and UHC are seeing record profits, which is what RayNY is referring to.

And THAT is a mic drop.

I read that S.E. Tennessee is going to have ZERO exchange carriers for 2018. It's looking like the ObamaCare implosion won't be a massive collapse, but more like a region-by-region melt-down.

Republicans had better get their butts in gear with a long-term solution ASAP. Hopefully they won't start offering insurers $$$$ to stay, or ObamaCare will never be replaced.
