The Math Doesn't Add Up.

I have to admit that I'd rather have Dwayne's version than yours. Florida has too many bugs, too much heat in the summer and only 2 seasons. I don't mind vacationing there every now and again though.

Just to continue off topic here ... I grew up (21 years) in Lynchburg, VA about an hour and a half from Dwayne's town, but I have lived here in Jacksonville, FL since 1991 ... They had a lot of bad bugs in VA also, it got hot and humid as Heck in July and August and I can do without Winter in VA. I will take my 25 golf courses within 45 minutes of the house, ocean breezes, crappy NFL team, awesome college football, and 2 seasons any day of the week. Lets face it, hot, humid, and buggy pretty much describes the entire South for 4 to 5 months of the year. I lived in Louisiana for 2 years also and they redefined hot and humid over there and I saw bugs that National Geographic is not aware of.

Thanks for the help. You see, you get the same percentage on your med supps as I do, but my income goes twice as far in Waynesboro, Va. than your's does in Tampa Florida. Money is relative. I am doing very well and I hope you are too.

HUH?? WTF is this jibber jabber... u a clown

Dwayne why do you care what other agents are doing?

You and everyone else in sales cares what other people make. If you knew the top dog in the insurance business only made 20k a year, would you be selling insurance. On the other hand, if you see that someone is successful, and making great money doing what you know you can do, you will be motivated and give it a try. It is a way to gage if you work hard, do you absolute best, or are lazy, how much you can expect to be compensated.

When you first got into the business, you weren't the least curious about what others made that were doing the same thing you are starting to do?

And your training people? U have no clue about how this biz works... up until suck point as u have been in the war long enough to not ask questions about how the math of selling works u should STOP claiming u can "train" poor agents.... i feel sorry for anyone that u train

You're right. I live exactly where the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline Drive meet. I live 3 miles from the Appalachian trail. I live 8 miles from the birthplace of Woodrow wilson, 25 miles from the home of Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, among other President's nearby.

I live where a traffic jams are 3 cars long, and people still say hello to one another in passing. When I look around I see beautiful farms, and when I look out my front door I can see the sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains. I live where my nice 2800 square foot home only cost me $140,000 and taxes are small.

We don't have smog and polluted air, well maybe the river because of Dupont. I can still leave my doors unlocked at night(which I don't) and my neighbors have a key to my house.

I attend a great church and am part of an awesome church family that cares for each other. I know that if I died today, my family would be taken care of by them.

I live 8 miles from all of the Statler brothers, 20 miles from John Grisham, Sissy Spacek, and Howie Long's gourgeous farms.

I make a great living, have an awesome wife, 2 straight A children, a nice home, a great career, God loves me, I love him.

My mentor and friend, a doctor who is in his 70's, went to Haiti for a month, this morning, with a day's notice. That's the kind of people in my life. He taught me in order to have, you must give.

God has blessed me far more than I will ever deserve.

Life really is hell in Waynesboro, Va.

Good for u.. I live about 10 minn. from GW Bush home, 10 from jerry jones.. tom hicks.. mark cuban... 1 mile from several PGA golfers.. live next door to a baseball pitcher... play golf with tiger woods, mike wier and ernie ells short game coach.. also play golf on a regular basis with a mini tour pro...I also shot the sheriff... but i did not shoot his deputy

I don't do medsupps, but, your retention math doesn't work. Retention is a compound problem, not a simple one. I'm assuming 80% retention is acheivable, but anything better, long term, in med sups probably isn't (again, just guessing, I don't know).

Lets say you do 100 apps a year, lets look at year 2, for simplicity sake.
Your math would say 100 x 2 years x 80% = 160.
Real retention says:
Year 1: 100 x 80% = 80
Year 2: (100 + 80) x 80% = 144

Big difference between the 160 and the 144, especially as you progress out more years. Not hard to figure out with a spreadsheet, but it will make a bit of a difference.

I means that people like to brag about what they make on the forum, but it is all relative to where they live. $100,000 will go a lot further in Waynesboro,Va. than it will in Miami or Dallas. Get it now..

You must be another one that thinks years of service make you an expert in Medicare and supplements. WRONG!! I only sell 2 products, and will always only sell 2 products, and I know them very well. You may be the dumbest person on earth who took 20 years to learn your products. Who knows and who cares.

I guess it's safe to assume that you think I care about your opinion. Wrong!!! By the way, if you live so close to Jerry Jones, you should go visit him. I know he's home because the Cowboys suck. Maybe he'll let you watch the Super Bowl with him.

I'm glad you are enjoying your life but I can't play golf anymore as I have had two back surgeries. You are right about the bugs, we have mosquitos the size of turkeys. I have been to Florida about 10 times and the only thing that I have seen that I like is the I95 North sign. Oh, I did watch the space shuttle launch when we were Cocoa Beach, that was cool. Scrub brush and swamps don't do much for me.

My idea of fun is to go to my cabin, hang out with my family, and the biggest concern I have is finding a flat place to set my drink.:D

Most of my med- supps are new clients!
Not sure why the math is so complicated for some, respectfully speaking!

Lets look at it this way (realistically): 250 clients = 375,000
comission = .20
annual income = 75,000
monthly in = 6,250
(Average annual premium per client is 1500)
Some agents are able to focus on this product, many have to have a couple of other products in there brief case! It is nice to get a Med- Supp renewal check every month (insuranceman)

Renewals are very important for you newbies, they take the pressure off. Clients can feel the pressure.Pressured people don't buy!

I would say that around 90% of my med-supp clients are new ones. About 1 of 10 is a switch from one company that I write for to another.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is...what happens after 10 years of renewals on med-supps? You get a whopping zero pct. commission with most companies....M of O...AFLAC(when they wrote supps.)....although Continental Life and United Teacher Associates pay a small commission for the life of the policy.

Just checking AARP...it's zero pct. after 6 years.

A hypothetical...If you had 50 customers starting their 7th year with AARP and you're reduced to a zero pct. commission, are you going to leave them with AARP or switch them to another company that will pay you a commission?

During one of your multiple bouts of "true confessions" didn't you mention that you also had an awesome wife...the first time you were married?

Multiple awesome wives are awesome. Makes one almost want to study polygamy...

Nope, not the first. In 1998 I became a single father with a 4 month old daughter and a 4 year old son. They are now 12 and 16. My wife and I have been married for 7 years and we have an awesome relationship.

Boy that one backfired on you, didn't it. Want to try again smart guy?

If you are trying to make a point about my Christian faith, and point out my faults, I'll clear it up for you.

I've done it all. I am the biggest screwup that has ever walked on the Earth. I drank heavily, smoked, did drugs as a teenager. I cussed like a sailor, had sex outside of marriage, loved to fight. I was mean to my parents as a kid, lied, cheated, and stole things, drove drunk, hated Jesus and anything to do with church. There is probably not a sin that I haven't commited, and I struggle everyday. So keep asking stupid questions because the answer is probably YES, I've probably done it.

You can have as many wives as you want. 1 is enough for me. I don't mean to be rude, but I thought you were a gay man. That's cool with me if you are.

Well I even have that trumped; 20 minutes away from Wash DC - we go to all the museums...free as well as the myriad of other buildings - U.S. Mint, Library of Congress, etc...

Inner Harbor is very cool - great aquarium, science center, and (relatively new) Port Discovery for kids (my son's 8)

Port Discovery

Then it's off to Philly, 90 minute drive or "Penn Station to Penn Station" to hit Mantattan.
