The Top 10 MISTAKES Most Insurance Agents Make.

I've seen a huge difference between agents who were recruited into the business and agents who decided to get into the business.

Agents recruited into the business have a "show me the money" mentality where everything needs to fall into their lap.

In fact, when I get calls from agents regarding potential success in the business my first question is "Why are you getting into insurance?"

If their answer is "I was recruited off Monster....." when they were not seeking a career in insurance my advice is "sit this one out."

Most...which is why the failure rate is insane. Go put your resume up then sit back and watch all the offers come in for "six figure" insurance opportunities.

My brother-in-law was looking for a warehouse management job and got 3 solicitations from captive life outfits.

There are too many agents per client which is why this is all a huge nightmare. As I drive down the road, do we really need 5 agencies per block with all of they clawing and scratching for business? No - we need to really raise the bar to get into this field.

I don't know about raising the bar or 5 agencies per block, but I'd be okay with 5 bars per block.

Five agencies per block??? Let me guess, there's a Primerica office, WFG office, a Farmers Agent, a State Farm agent and an Allstate office... right?

Now THINK about it... how many people are actually soliciting insurance agents IN those offices?

And what KIND of insurance is being sold in those offices?

Yes, I think there are way too many P&C offices in my area. Life insurance career shops? Seem to be going the way of the Dodo bird.

The field is Darwinian in nature. Yes, it's easy to "get in". The challenge is being productive enough to STAY in.

Differentiate yourself.

I think that is going to change with baby boomers....now.....if I can get all the life company's to develop online applications.......

However, most of that group won't go on a website to find you, you have to go to them and ask.

Have enough money. Be confident and ask for the business. Don't seem needy or desperate. Be professional. Know your doing the right thing and believe you are helping.

Well I have organic multiple directs approaching in every day and I'm STILL designing out my career. I couldn't envisage managing everything rearwards, 95% of every individual in this enterprise falls short because 95% of all persons design to fail
