Things to Look for when Choosing an RIA

You're on the wrong forum. This one's for insurance agents.

What are your reasons for wanting to join a RIA instead of becoming one yourself?

I've heard good things about LPL financial. Make sure they are independent and not owned by a broker dealer. JMO

I realize this is an insurance agent forum, however many agents have their series 65.

I'm not interested in having my own RIA.

I thought LPL was a broker dealer?

They do run their own securities (so I'm sorry - they're not a good example). You can't avoid B/Ds altogether - you need them to buy and sell your securities but if I had to be an IAR I would choose a small shop that uses an outside firm. LPL has gotten too big. IMO
