You have to have an alternative. Costs and premiums are going through the roof.

True, but this is a world wide problem, not just here. Britain and Canada have issues funding health care, as does France, Italy and even Michael Moore's beloved Cuba.

GB is considering privatizing some aspects of the NHS. Other countries have a mixed plan with some private and some govt offerings.

The thought behind Obamacrap was to "save" Medicare.

Won't happen.

In spite of $1 trillion in new taxes, ACO's, death panels and no more doc fixes, Medicare is in trouble and none of these moves will help.

Yes, they do need an alternative but the truth is, until we as a country get off the obesity train and stop funding every headache and hangnail thru health insurance, nothing is going to work.

Anything is possible.

Propagandists of reform, since Obama and finishing petty officials, promised lowering of cost of the insurance for 2.500 dollars a year. It has appeared, as one would expect, that cost will rise, since 2011.

This thing could be repealed within 30 days by simply the American people taking action not just words to tell them to shove it right up their ass, deep up in there. We are all talk over here unlike other countries that take to the streets. Dancing With The Stars and American Idol along with other crap keep us under control for now.
As winter said repeal and replace with what and who? All parties have things right on schedule and what we think is a mess is going planned as usual. When are the people going to wake up? Geeze..........

The thing with all of this is there is no "middle ground"

Here are the major differences between the UK system and the US:

UK
Paid through general taxation

Provided for all citizens, residents and visitors irrespective of ability to pay.

Free at the point of delivery

All services are run through your local doctor first, then referrals are given.

Model is primarily based on a "cost saving basis" (i.e. kids don't need physicals to go to school etc - very little preventative is provided)

Doctors are employed by Local NHS trusts (AKA Government)

USA

Free for poor people

Health insurance for middle/upper classes

Hospitals are only required to provide "emergency care", unless patient can provide proof of financial adequacy (i.e. Insurance)

The patient has more choice as to which Drs, which services they get.

Much more "unnecessary" procedures are given that have no impact on a persons health.

Hospitals, Drs, etc are run on a "profit maximization" basis

Dr's can be self employed and charge what they like.

Neither of these systems are perfect. Why can't we design one that takes elements of both to meet somewhere in the middle?

Well yes, but the NHS is bleeding profusely and they are looking for ways to cut costs and avoid going bankrupt. This includes shifting more responsibility BACK to the individual . . . which is where it should be all along.

Medicare & Medicaid are also in the tank but the folks in DC are not ready to admit it or do something about it, other than raising taxes.

Since time began the NHS has AWAYS been bleeding profusely. There is nothing new there.

Every election, every politician, every political party talks about how bad the NHS is doing and how it is failing.

But its still here over 60 years after its inception and its never going away.

I am not advocating the UK system either. Yes there are flaws, in the same way there are flaws in the US system.

Why no take the best of both worlds and design a system that is good for all? (which is coincidently is what the UK is considering doing - Copays for office visits)

You can make the same argument for Medicare.

I do agree there is room for discussion about a middle ground solution, but more government is not the answer to anything. The free market, without government intervention is always more efficient when it comes to consumer goods.

Obama is going to focus on rationing. Or, as he puts it, "only pay for what works." That will be the middle ground. You will have coverage but only for what the government approves.
